Melee builds doing bosses in Act 1 and 2 (possibly 3 too)

Possible, but painful. Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very painful. All I do is dodge. When I finish dodging, boss would move on to the next attack, so I need to dodge immediately. There was almost no down time for me to punch the bosses because they are always spamming attacks and dropping aoes at the same time. I had to chug pots to tank hits in order to dps. The attack frequency on some of the monsters are way over tuned and reminds me of Archnemesis. Can't outrun them and they hit me twice or thrice per second. Feels so powerless and hopeless against them. The current state the game is just PoE 1.5. You zoom dps the boss to death or take you time for the boss to drop even more aoes on you. Nothing is PoE 2. You just slow the players down, but we still have to deal with "PoE 1" mechanics. Early level game play experience is just like PoE 1 and it sucks.
New and clueless players probably uninstalled at this point in worse case scenario. Playing a melee monk was the worst decision ever. I died at least once to almost every boss in every zone. Some of the early level skills are so bad, especially monk quarterstaff ones, they are so terrible in act1 and 2. "Falling Thunder" has seem exactly ZERO USAGE in any of my boss fights so far because I can't generate power charges in single boss fight. I had to reroll to a range/spell/minion build to restore my sanity. I probably will never ever play any melee build until I unlock all tiers of skill gems. Melee is literally the easiest spec to kill bosses in the campaign. You just stun them immediately and can just kill them with basic attack without even breaking a sweat.

I had some problems with the first boss. As a heavy armor type with bad boots, bad damage, and questionable cold resistance I had fairly low move speed so I got hit by a lot of attacks. Never could permastun a boss with attacks but maybe I didn't try properly (??)
The second boss though, even with so-so damage, I was able to outlast them. I could survive messing up a dodge but I could recover [life regen] enough to cover up the mistake. It was a slog to get through but it wasn't necessarily hard. Think war-of-attrition as opposed to a nice, clean, short victory. Fortunately the 2nd time through [Cruel] difficulty all of the above bosses weren't anything to worry too much about -- at least when leveraging trade. |

Warrior was definitely a chore in the early game. In cruel mode after spamming damage passives and trading for a good primary weapon, I steam rolled through most of cruel mode.

melee posts are insane. you're given multiple tools to build stun. you're given perfect strike to hit them with while they're stunned if you can't manage to do it while they're attacking. war cry empowered perfect strike is like a third of a campaign boss' health bar with any decent two hander. shield charge lets you get out and reposition whenever you need it.
the fact you couldnt get quarterstaff to work tells me its just a skill issue. frost bomb and doing any attack combo is enough to beat the bosses, let alone using the bell on top of that. Last edited by Cargopants#2374 on Dec 27, 2024, 5:01:52 PM

Warrior go heavy into stun, monk go heavy into cold...then you can ignore all boss mechanics.

My monk killed the act 1 boss so fast he only did the fog phase once.
Your problems are not my problems, fix your build. |
