You guys should look to Angband

Seriously, its grindy just like this, but it tantalizes just enough to be endlessly enjoyable. Ive been playing it since it was still moria, and it seems like thats what you are going for. A game that takes years of play to even attempt the endgame. I personally enjoy the fuck out it myself. But the "crafting" system should probably just be dumped, and drops increased. I get what you were going for there, but as you guys see, its not working as planned.

Plus, unlike Angband, your char isnt gone forever when you die, which is a plus.

EDIT: I savescum like a motherfucker.

I think the developers already occasionally peruse the internet for some inspiration, but it's still a nice suggestion you give, i'll second your motion that Angband is a good game to draw from, and i'd like to add ADOM (Ancient Domain of Mysteries) with it's endless-dungeon as icing, because it also takes the hardcore aspect in very much ^^
gah, ADOM is all icing, no cake.

On a secondary note, im glad im not the only person who still plays these.
Also, yes years, I have a lvl 55 half elf mage, that is basically god. Ive been playing him for a decade.
Oddly enough, you can transfer these chars to DnD, you shouldnt transfer a lvl 55 mage to dnd though. They can literally kick gods in the dick and then chuckle while they try to smite them. But Ive done it as npcs a coupla time, its fun that way.

Wait im drunk the level cap is fucking 50, haha go me

As yet another edit, angband has an endless dungeon too. And it gets pretty damn hard. Greater Undead that can summon multiple greater undead per turn. You best be +30 to speed at least

Kill them before they notice you, or just leave that dungeon floor. Shit will get fucked in a hurry.

Destro, just go download Angband, it works on all the operating systems. Its also free.

The best part about angband is it will kill you without any mercy. And give zero shits about it. Its a damn hard game. Also, dont play a kobold rogue, grow a pair. Go half-troll priest. Or gnome mage.

Melee kind of sucks in Angband too. well not really, but it takes skill.

Bro. I already downloaded the game BEFORE I made my comment. :P

I'm a huge fan of Nethack and the rougelike genre in general. I honestly like that they don't have quite as good graphics, but because of that, the game play is so superior imo.
I've read a lot of good things about this game, I'll give it a try, thanks.

In the same rogue-like type, you should try TOME 4 (Tales of Maj'Eyal 4). This game is made by only one guy and it blew my mind. The depth and all the classes are just amazing, I spent hundred of hours on it last year when I discovered it, haven't been that addicted since Diablo 2.

It is obligatory to bring up Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup in this thread. It's my favourite roguelike.

Really, really recommended.
Zangband was my flavor of choice last time I played these. Giant, open world, so many ways to die horribly.

Let´s bring Dungeons of Dredmor into the mix too, then! It´s more "casual" but fun nonetheless!
