Remove on death effects, period.
These things are why I try not to put too much confidence in GGG. This is not an oversight or balance problem, It's a very deliberate choice to put these in the game, it took development time and approval and even made it past every playtester and internal review, whilst also limiting us to 1 map portal to make them significantly more dangerous. All for the player base unanimously hate it. They could show some humility and admit it's not fun, but they probably won't.
If they stubbornly stick to it, then at what cost, can't possibly predict the effect this will have on the player base but I can be pretty confident it's not positive number. |

" I'm relatively new to PoE and wondered if I was the only one feeling silly about this! The real effect of on-death effects is not to harm you, but to make you do a little dance move. They don't add anything fun to the game, and they should go. |

" They can make any arguments they want. They will not achieve different effects than I already described. I will jump back and wait if there is even 0.1% of on-death effects. The only solution is to delete on-death effects, never come back, and find different solutions to achieve the original goal. Anyone with a logical mind should know this. I am disappointed in GGG developers that they don't see that or ignore it. Usually, they have very good perspectives and explanations of their decisions. But everybody has flaws. One of GGG's flaws is thinking they can make on-death effects meaningful and not frustrating. Last edited by rastaqki#6957 on Dec 20, 2024, 7:58:32 AM

Boss dies, loot drops. My instinct is to look real quick to see what is happening on the screen. Ooooh a unique, oooh currency. During that split second time they spawn after death effects and one shot me.
That is seriously a shit move to distract a player then blindside them with a crap mechanic. All in the name of rewarding, engaging gameplay! |

They were added to the first game because people were asking to game to be easier and easier to a point that rares were literally one-shot. At this point, if rares cannot really be a threat, they had to be a threat in other way - by getting killed (or one-shotting you from off-screen - before you one-shot them).
On-death effects can be a good addition, but if they are used sparsely and by enemies that are being shown to do it VERY early on - like the exploding fatties. If only the exploding fatties do that (or, say, just 4 enemy types in the game), you'll instantly know what will follow once you see them and react accordingly. You don't even need to see what is on the ground. The problem is that they took so many of the death effect from the first game that one can assume that they are everywhere... I mean, this could even be a map mod - all enemies explode after X second of dying (along with heft bonus to loot for that added challenge). This could make a map interesting (and funny) to do and you could actually chose if you want to risk doing it, but that would be a change and choice from normally should not happen. Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge. | |
Playing MF poison PF - farming t16 delirium maps: i can't even notice them. it must be reworked at least. I have tons of loot, opening the breach, i can't even see myself - what a chance I can notice purple or fire small ball? ^^

The on death effect and RIDICULOUS damage that it can do will make me quit, Impossible to see. It's like a constant Nihlathak room. I know that corpse explosions are a different thing, i never really died from it but i'm still in low tier maps. I think just one or two type of mobs should do it (Like in D2). Not any of the mobs should explode by a modifiers, I don't have the time to read them. The endgame give us all PTSD. Having to wait 4-5 seconds after killing a pack is annoying. REMOVE. ON. DEATH. EFFECT. I hope this will be adressed in the next update (tomorrow) I love the game, i'm addicted to it but this BS on death effect will make me uninstall. That's the only thing that can make me rage quit the game. Everything is going good in my map and then BOOM dead. No mather how good your reflexes are, you'll die. Without warning and 0 visibility. Everyone hates it!! Please GGG make this game better by removing the on death effect OR greatly reduce the damage. We don't play to have Vietnam PTSD and Horrible death flashbacks. I'd never EVER EVER play Hardcore as long as invisible crap can kill me. Last edited by ArchspireQc#3580 on Jan 11, 2025, 11:53:13 AM

I've had a lot of patience with it but I died one too many times to it at high level where EXP takes an eternity to accumulate. In most content and for most builds there is zero visual clarity. The only exception to that are the fatties that are at least somewhat visible and where you can prepare.
On ground effects that resolve even after death are virtually impossible to see most of the time and no amount of gitting good, dodging or any other dumb excuse or peasants wisdom will change that. Diablo 3 and 4 are much better in that regard - it's clearly visible that something is going to explode even if the screen is full of effects including soundeffects that are clearly audible (Molten/Ice). I'm tired of it. I don't know what the devs smoke or whoever elses fault it is that this kind of system makes it into the game in that form, but oh boy, it's a bad one for sure.
