We need WASD movement for PoE 1 now too.

I make do without WASD by binding "W" to force move.

But I'd be lying if I said that WASD wasn't a superior experience, by several orders of magnitude, in POE 2.

For now I'll bounce between the two games but the very second POE 2 has enough content that I can't possibly do it all (like POE 1) then I will shelve POE 1 forever.

And a big reason for that is that mouse click to move is a severely outdated mechanic held over from a long bygone era and only implemented for nostalgic reasons.

Those that rail against the idea of WASD in POE 1 are stuck in the past, [Removed by Support]

I'd love to see it, I'd love to try PoE1 but I'll never do it without WASD movement.

I highly doubt it'll happen. It's a big investment in an old game that in all likelihood is already well on it's final ride into the sunset (even if they let that ride go on for a long time).

Only way it happens is if we have a OSRS moment - POE2 bombs and everyone goes over to PoE1.

It's a lot less of an investment than you'd think.
They wouldn't have to add any strafing or anything - it'd work the same as how D4 works - you press A character looks & runs left, they don't have to face the cursor while moving.
Hope they will add all usefull features from EA to main client.
you realize the amount of things they would have to do to implement this right?
Its not just as simple as wasd makes you move now.

It is that simple, I've written dozens of character controllers as a professional game developer.

They don't need to make the characters strafe like POE2.
There's no difference between clicking two feet to the left with your character and pressing A.

It really comes down to how hardcoded their input system is but as far as animation systems, there is no additional work needed.

Not to mention, it already works like that on gamepad, just needs to be translated in the input system to WASD in KB&M.

Basically, it was the reason why I never could play PoE 1 in the first place. Even without PoE 2, there are a lot of isometric WASD action games, so I never could understand why all ARPG still didn't adapt it. Btw, another thing which even PoE2 didn't adapt is camera shifting to the cursor direction, like in basically all modern isometric action games.

Because WASD is the worst thing possible in an isometric game. Every isometric game with it is a failure.
It is an horrible hybridation of the worst of both point and click and controller.
If you want optimal control you play point and click
If you want quality of life you play with a controller.

PoE2 came with an autoaim that destroyed the 3 ways of control. Point and click, WASD and controller are horrible in poe2.

WASD in isometric do not work because you do not control FOV with your mouse like in other first or third person games.
It only has 8 directionals and you need to press 2 active inputs for a diagonal strafe.
The truth is WASD players are just people unable to understand point and click or aRPGs.
These are facts. All you guys have to say for WASD is repeating like npc: " Hmm WASD so good."
If you want QoL you play with a controller, no reason to play WASD in any world.

Implementing WASD in poe1? No thanks. That's not the controls that keeps you guys out of poe1, that is the skill check you will never be able to overcome. Stick to poe2 dodgeroll fiesta.

That's your subjective opinion and that's totally fine but I completely disagree and giving the user more options is never a bad thing. Because I want to use WASD doesn't mean I'm asking them to force you to use it. It wouldn't affect you in any way.

I much prefer WASD in D4 and POE2 over point & click and would prefer it in POE1 as well.
No, just NO.

That's the thing, though; those games are balanced around it. If they added WASD to PoE1 without balancing bosses, skills and monsters around it and didn't allow attack/cast while moving, I would be totally OK with it. THAT would be a genuine choice/preference. In PoE2 it's not, as you get so many benefits from using WASD.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Honestly, it may work ok in PoE2 but if the M+K controls worked as they did in PoE1 i would use those over wasd for quite a few skills.
The problem though is that they made the game around wasd in PoE2, that is not the case for PoE1 and the amount of work needed to make all the skills work would just butcher the feel of the game if not make it just a straight up worse experience.
