What supports do you use on Firestorm?
First let me say "Firestorm sucks" isn't a support gem, so you don't need to tell me that.
I'm a summoner, and been running Firestorm with Faster Casting, Fire Penetration, and Item Quantity. Thinking about swapping Fire Penetration for Culling Strike, since I have IIQ. Some important things to note here: I use Elemental Weakness, which diminishes the effect of Fire Penetration (thinking I may not need it, and can use something better). Also, I cannot just put whatever gems I want in there and have a 100 mana cost Firestorm. I have lots of mana regen, but 100 is just too much. So, what would/do you guys use as a summoner? |

Fire Pen > Elemental Weakness for fire-resistant mobs.
EDIT: Also take into consideration Concentrated Effect. Last edited by andybmcc#3970 on May 1, 2013, 2:14:43 PM

Firestorm is one of my personal favorites.
I think Culling Strike is a good choice. I would suggest if you can handle casting cost- Added Chaos Damage or, since you already use Elemental Weakness, Added Lightning Damage. Life leech or Mana leech would also be good candidates, depending on your needs. |

Firestorm -> Firestorm sucks -> Firestorm sucks -> Firestorm sucks.
If you have a 5L, Firestorm -> Firestorm sucks -> Firestorm sucks -> Firestorm sucks -> Firestorm sucks. 6L, Firestorm -> Firestorm sucks -> Firestorm sucks -> Firestorm sucks -> Firestorm sucks -> Firestorm sucks. No, but seriously, Firestorm, culling strike, item quantity, item rarity. Keep firestorm @ level 3 so you can spam it without loosing mana. That's how I run it on my summoner. |

I use firestorm + elemental proliferation + chance to ignite. Seems to work pretty good. I'm a summoner so my main damage comes from my minions.

I use it on my summoner as well. I find it works well when I hit the mobs on the other side of the screen. I use Increased AoE, Increased Duration, and Chance to Ignite.

Increased Area of Effect, Added Lightning Damage, Elemental Proliferation, Lightning Penetration, Faster Casting.
WITH SHOCK NOVA WHICH IS THE BEST SUMMONER OFFENSE SPELL EVER. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

" Isn't chance to ignite wasted on firestorm? Burn damage doesn't stack and is based on the amount of fire damage dealt, and the damage of each individual fireball in firestorm is pretty low (20% effectiveness). |

I've used faster casting, increased area, increased duration, mana leech when I've 5L-ed it on a summoner hybrid, and liked that. I had increased duration particularly because i was using Elemental Equilibrium, and small Spork Totem, so that lightning and fire were mixing it up quite nicely. Mana leech takes care of the mana problem IMO.

Best supports:
Concentrated effect - more damage, the "drawback" improves firestorm because more meteors hit the target. Increased duration - effectively more damage, multiplicative with conc effect. Fire penetration - effectively more damage, again multiplicative with all the others. Good supports: Faster casting - effectively more damage multiplicative with all the others, not as effective as increased duration. Bad supports: Increased area of effect - covers a larger area and the meteor explosions are bigger, but the chance for a given monster to be hit is reduced. Elemental proliferation - burn damage is based on initial hit, won't be significant. I'm not sure what I'd stick in a sixth link. This is of course if you just want damage and not an ior/iiq culler. |
