Maps closing on death
" To spend so much effort making a cool co-op feature, to do some pretty nice balance tweaks to group gameplay, to add a set of cool nodes empowering your allies, and then to make it unusable anywhere past the campaign and effectively enforce single-player mode because there is too much extra risk on adding extra players to the group. Yup, sounds about right. |

I think it is annoying. I prefer how it was in POE1, you have 6 portals, and you and/or the group members can use them to re-enter the map, even if they died. If it should be "harder", maybe reduce the number of portals, but having only 1 life is no fun, especially with all the 1-hit mob and boss skills. With overwhelming effects in group play making it often impossible to see telegraphs of enemy skills and explosions, it is often getting ridiculous annoying, as you often die without being able to see what kills you at all.

This is honestly killing endgame for me atm, I enjoy the gameplay and everything else atm, but the constant risk of loosing a map is always at the back of my head. Its not fun, I would really not play this if it was anything but PoE2.
it feels like a hardcore mechanic forced on softcore players atm, fine if they want to keep it in but the game is just not for me then. I just wish we could get a confirmation on if they will never change it, then I'll just move on. "Had they not taken my home with fire, I would not have taken their children." Witch -

Agreed on this, GGG needs to change this if they want people to stay invested into endgame. There was nothing worse in POE1 when you die and have no portals left while seeing a div on the ground that you can't get back to, but given you had 6 chances to survive that map, it really is on you for not lasting that long. Meanwhile in POE2, you have 1 chance to survive that map while trying to avoid the MASSIVE random damage you take that you can't identify because POE2 still (for whatever reason) sticks with the POE1 mechanic where you have no idea what you died to.
Overall this is a very poor design decision and should be changed. Also, this whole thing where whatever is on the ground just gets nuked whenever you die is also a very, very poor decision. The overall core of the game is great, but these directions make absolutely no sense. Overall, I think 3 things need to happen. 1. Give us however many chances at the map as we have portals 2. Do not delete items left on the ground in the map upon death 3. Leave the monsters dead. It made sense to respawn monsters in the campaign in case you were level-gated, but please don't take this direction with endgame maps. If we want to level, we will do what we did in POE1 and spam maps until we have what it takes to take on more challenging ones. |

I don't mind it that much, assuming bullshit deaths can be worked on (looking at you stupid purple orbs/flowers/after death bs)
But I really hate that the boss/encounters in the map are removed. You're already being penalised by losing your waystone and a hefty xp penalty, why must we also lose all the cool things about the location we found too :( |

" Well, GGG needs to change this before official release or I will be done with POE. I'm not playing a game where if I die I cannot go back and retry. Also, I don't like the monsters respawning, repopulating the area after death. Act 3, Drowned City is the worst. Hag's with a bugged skills that either do nothing or instantly one-shot you, completely ignoring Mind Over Matter. Going back in and then having to re-kill everything is not fun, especially the first time, when I didn't know the monsters respawned on player death. Died, one-shot, shortly after a check point that had 5 or 6 Hag's, 2 of which were rare. Died a second time shortly there after because upon kiting the Hag pack back to area I knew I cleared, I was immediately and unexpectedly surrounded and killed by everything that was supposed to be dead. Now, made it through, but that's not the point. The point is, this was not fun. Being killed by the Bugged skill, whatever, it's EA. On the other hand, one chance, cleared monsters respawning on player death, this was an intentional design decision, one that isn't fun. And while I'm here, during the campaign cancelling encounters and deleting items on player death is not fun either. Essence encounters in the campaign are overtuned. OK, it's EA. But, getting killed while fighting the Essence monster and having the Essence monster being removed from the zone upon player death is not fun. Nor is having the Essence drop being deleted if you won, but died before being able to pick up the drop. This stuff goes live, again, I will be done. My 13, 14 year run of playing POE will be over. |

I wonder how are you supposed to see whats under your feet and where are the pathways and where are the walls in this 1 portal map. |

I personally don't mind the idea of monsters respawning on death. For me, it's about the overall challenge of clearing the map in 1 go. HOWEVER, I should be able to make that attempt with however many portals I have on hand; there is nothing worse than crushing a rare in a huge pack, but because it's so dark you didn't see the chaos crystals it shot at you and BOOM, dead. Or there's some mob of screen that starts exploding corpses and you're locked in a group of monsters.
Come on GGG. I die? Reset the map and let me go again. Delete the loot, I don't care. Friend dies? Let me revive and use a portal in order to do so, or wait until I die and we both can re-enter (you guys are smart, I'm sure this can be balanced). What is the point of having softcore if I can't enjoy my softcore play? This is semi-hardcore and it's anxiety inducing. I don't believe that the majority of the player base wants to be sweaty on EVERY SINGLE MAP. Its exhausting. If they did, there's a mode for that. |

+1
i love bosses and bossing, having only 1 attempt and then repeat steps for a second attempt that can take hours like for the pinnacle boss is ridiculous |

I am a new player and I was somehow promised that PoE2 will be friendly for people like me (I consider myself a casual++, I am someone who plays everyday, grind, learn and document myself about games mechanics and strategies").
I reached TIER 3 maps, finally maxed out my res and decided to try my first boss. I died to a small mistake (the Hyenas who throws small spears from the hill, i completely forgot about them). The fact that i could not try again, because I believe I did very well in my first and only attempt, made me quit POE2. I will only comeback if i see that next patch really listen to the community and made it more casual friendly as it was intended for and much more forgiving. I spend time on this game and I would like to see my time respected. |
