Death Penalty above Fun is an asinine approach

It just makes no sense, so many penalties for dying and it's just to PUNISH the player. That's the only reason it exists, it's not fun in any multiverse.

Waiting for you to send a guy to my house to come punch me in the face, that's the ONLY thing you HAVEN'T done to penalize players.

The 10% xp doesnt bother me, but I hate one and done style mechanics though. Its one of the things I hate about last epoch.
I HATE the XP penalty for dying in POE1. Since theres so many things that can insta kill you. and I hate that its on POE2. with POE2 being ALOT harder I cant see more self bothering to do maps, and I'll probably give up by then.
Death is compound punishing for sure. Reset monsters in campaign maps. Kick you out of trials/endgame maps. Lose XP past campaign. It's too much. Especially when there are mechanics that you are likely to die to in the process of learning, even in an ideal world where things are fully tuned to the right levels everywhere.

It's more this than any single one of those it's the combination of them

Don't forget the on death effects from mobs that GGG just loves for no good reason

I HATE on death effects, please for the love of christ himself remove it from the game entirely, it's awful and a waste of everyone's time. It was a waste of developers time to even put it in the game

- yep, and as usual: It penalizes melee classes and ranged classes can just not care and wait it out (boring, but at least not deadly).

It's so absurd. GGG needs to not listen to player feedback so much, but ask themselves this very simple question when designing things:

"How does the game benefit from this if it's implemented?"

They have clearly NOT done that with some of these design decisions and they willy nilly off the hip decided some BS mechanics that sounded cool. They didn't test them, they didn't try them.

Dying and losing the TIME you spent on something IS ENOUGH in Elden Ring, why can't that be good enough for GGG?

When I die I don't need to also lose:
- My friendships
- All the loot
- 15% EXP
- My life savings
- The death of a family member


Feels like an air of pretentiousness that they think they can make a superior game by making it less challenging and more punishing. It's like they never looked at WHY challenging games are good and just copied the systems over from several of them trying to cobble them together and calling that an attempt.
I just noticed the death penalty after two days and dying a lot...
I refunded before but I don't want to fail my friends again....
But I'm gonna cut my play time by half and play something else...
IF this death penalty carries on to the final release, I won't play the leagues...
I've had enough of this bullshit in poe1 over the years....
I won't have this again...
And I regret every penny I paid at the moment at this hour...

Death penalty is a fucking scam in broad daylight!
I am down for hard content where monsters have higher HP and but even Elden Ring doesn't punish players this hard for dying.

Dying to improve game mechanics = Good Death.

Dying and getting ripped of progress, like EXP and drops and later stages you will lose maps!! They don't just let you retry the boss and learn the mechanics to fight better = Punishment.

PoE 2 is artificially made to feel like a hard game because of these punishment systems that you notice later. Many of the gamers who pick up PoE 2 have already played soulslike game and we know how to grind to become stronger and come back to fight or fight and learn mechanics and win play style. GGG isn't the innovator of that.


I am sorry to say but life is punishing enough, I don't want that in my games.

It's a cheap trick that Chris Wilson obsessed over and it needs to end right now. If game play is going to be slower, which people are fine with, GGG needs to have some integrity and respect the players even a little and take this BS out of the game.
