having a hard time logging back into poe2
i think the game is good, i am having the same issue with POE2 that i did with POE1.
the passive tree is just...overwhelming and terrifying to even pick up. every time i open it i dread having to find anything on it tbh. and even when i know what i want to find i cant. i searched up one thing and had to still scroll around for 5 seconds to find it. i made some suggestions for ways to improve it while keeping it the exact same (just cosmetic changes) but lets face it, most people here are poe 1 experts, so anything that isnt complaining about difficulty and gear gets drowned out. check my suggestions thread in feedback if you want to get an idea: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3596912 overall i see no difference between POE1 and POE2 talent trees, both are equally unapproachable from a new player perspective. it allows 0 planning, and 0 thoughtfulness without outside tools. which kinda sucks honestly. i hope this changes eventually. but i am guessing GGG is way too busy to address it before launch, or after. The search is the only way to make it manageable. I feel like this is a failure for a person that doesn't want to have to understand the whole tree. Should probably allow for a mode that lets you click between survivability, damage, or a stat point and auto fills in the tree accordingly. Lets be honest, there are tools and mods that will do this in the future, if not just assigning AI to fill it in in the early game.
The passive tree is still the biggest barrier to drawing people into the game. It's offputting. Second to it is the fact that weapons are linked to skills instead of classes. Third is which support gems work with which skills. Understanding the strength of the system took longer for me than I'd like to admit. I'm actually not playing the game in it's current state, but I'll chime in here on the forums to give them a chance to listen. Last edited by Gigs#6884 on Dec 14, 2024, 2:21:58 PM

It is significantly dumbed down from poe1, and instead of life nodes you grab extra es/armor/eva nodes.
What issues are you guys even having? You dont need to be crunching fractions of percent differences between 2 different trees for hours when you are in acts. Also attribute nodes are actually good in this game, so dont feel like you are wasting points on them. Last edited by BossOfThisGym#2062 on Dec 14, 2024, 2:28:41 PM

i think the most needed things are:
let me zoom all the way out so i can see the whole tree, so i can see where stuff is when i search for it. let me bookmark nodes and auto generate the shortest path to the bookmarked node (not allocated skills, just bookmarked skills) so i can pre-plan a tree, that way i can just add the next thing in line when i get the levels. those are the most important. seriously. the tree right now, from a new player perspective, is identical to poe 1. no difference. at all. i see all these poe1 experts talking about how much simpler it is and approachable and im wondering if im just broken or what? but i enjoyed LE skill tree a lot, and d2 also. i dont know man, if i search for something, and then its not even on the screen and i have to scroll around for 5 seconds to find it im basically not looking for it anymore, and since i cant even understand a path from start to what i want my sorc to be without minutes of scrolling around on 1/5th of the tree, with no ability to highlight a path i want to take, like what? i dont wanna deal with any of this, at least let me preplan my route. so its a 1 time dread, not literally every level up. I HATE that they just copy pasted poe1 skill tree without making any accessibility changes. " the tree is massive. I CANT SEE IT. literally, go search something, and then scroll around endlessly to see what highlights, and have no ability to quickly decide a path to the node because its 3 scroll screens away from where you are. its ridiculous. and the inability to mark nodes you want in the future is also needed. check the thread i put up in the OP to see what i would want to consider the talent tree good. i didnt suggest anything but cosmetic changes. What could you possibly be searching for that isnt located all over your starting area?
When i say dumbed down, i mean the game really doesnt want you to leave your starting area. So if you are pathing far away from it something is fundementally wrong. Are you trying to go evasion/armor on your sorc? I dont understand. Last edited by BossOfThisGym#2062 on Dec 14, 2024, 2:40:01 PM

" it doesnt matter what i want. it matters that the tree is badly designed. i want to be a rainbow sorc. i want to cast fireball, and i want my fireball to increase my frostbolts damage, and then when i cast frostbolt, i want it to increase my firebolts damage. you need elemental equilibrium to do this. elemental equilibrium is at the end of the tree, in the opposite direction of where the sorc starts. so i need to be able to path a way to it, then look for fire/frost nodes on the way there. thats it. but this doesnt matter. i want to play the game, and the game is preventing me to play it by making passive skills a nightmare to allocate. if you're not supposed to leave your starter zone then cut it up into starter zone sized trees and dont have them connected, if thats the purpose. no reason to have all classes connected. i didnt suggest anything outrageous, i suggested they allow us to zoom out all the way, and they allow us to bookmark nodes and autogenerate shortest path to the node as a highlighter so you know what to allocate in the future, this hardly requires any arguments or further questions into what people want to use it for, these are fundamentally good suggestions that will benefit anyone. EDIT: the tree is so poorly accessible that i thought elemental equilibrium is in the opposite direction from start of sorc, and didnt find out i was actually looking at around 9 oclock until i booted up POE 2 TREE VIEWER in a browser and was able to properly zoom out to find it. this is ridiculous. And when you do that and realize its bad what are you going to say?
Exposure effects are incredibly easy to get access to, and resistances on mobs in poe2 cant go negative. Not to mention those 2 skills are just not good in that EE role. You should not leave the starting area if you dont know what you are doing, but you can if do. Thats why it is open. |

I'm not sure why the tree is giving you problems, op. It's having the opposite effect on me. The tree is significantly dumbed down from poe 1 to the point where there aren't very many good options to make. This is especially true in the endgame. In poe1 i would spend hours trying to optimize my tree to get the most benefit out of every point, which is further compounded by the fact that there are many good choices to make. The poe1 tree, after many years, is in the best state ive ever seen it.
In poe2 leveling doesn't even feel rewarding because the tree has been dumbed down, many small nodes provide small benefits. by lvl 70 most of the leftover nodes you skipped don't have many significant impacts to your build, and since leveling slows down immensely the investment feels insignificant. |

" this isnt poe 1, i can just respec, the point is the tree is NOT ACCESSIBLE. all you are doing is saying i shouldnt do that, but any build that requires any keystone outside of the immediate starting zone is not accessible. like your not saying im wrong, you're just saying i shouldnt do it, while agreeing there are builds leaving the "starter zone" if you know what you are doing. so whatever builds you are thinking of are equally unacessible. zooming out on the tree and bookmarking passives helps everyone, regardless what they want to use it for. get off your high horse, how about you tell me why we should keep the tree like this? zoomed in and with no QOL features and with no way to do preplanning, and with no way to do any significant pathing then. |

So you are mad you have to spend extra travel points to get to EE? Now im really confused.
