Allow For Same Support Gem On Several Skills

"
Hello GGG!
I've learned that one cannot use the same support gems om several skills. For instance: I would like to use Cold Penetration on both Comet and Frost Wall. The game doesn't allow me do that. I would also like to use Spell Echo on both Ice Nova and Comet.

Any chance this will be changed in the future?

Regards

I agree with GGG that there is a good reason for this restriction:
More creativity in building your skills.

But i think currently we dont have enough support gems, for it to feel like we have creative choices.
With the change to emphasize on using multiple skills during fights, we also use a lot more support gems than we ever used in PoE1.
So in combination our support gem pool runs dry very fast.

We know that they gonna give us more and more support gems in the future and the number of used skills will probably never change from this on, so this issue will be addressed in some way. Just hope it will be a ton of support gems we will get.

Thank you.

This really saddens me. It makes it feel like a Diabloesque "restraint" where it limits one's own choices and build imagination (like something one would find in Diablo 3). I don't want to sacrifce a helm slot to be able to use Cold Penetration on two of my skills.

I really hope they change this in the future.

It will never change, because this restriction leads to more interesting choices to make, not less.

More interesting for who, and how?

"I need some elemental penetration on this skill."
"You should use Elemental Focus instead, it's more interesting that way."

That's how I feel about it.

I agree with you.

Feels.. weird.

This restriction is what makes you have much more choice. Otherwise you would just put the strongest support in every slot, no need to think. With restriction you have to min max support usage. It's a great restriction and it shouldn't be removed.
That is not it though. There will still not be that much choice and with 5 supports we will instead just be limited to using 1 skill. A skill with 5 sub-par support gems will be useless except for the built in combos.

It is more than enough. Instead of straight up buffing damage of every skill, you think of comboing. For example making one skill apply more ailments and other skill consume ailments to deal more damage. Maybe add some utility to the skill. Options are endless and only going to get better as more supports are added. This IS REAL choice instead of illusion of choice that PoE1 had.

I do get that they want to encourage the use of several skills and combos, but I can't see how my options are endless. If my options are endless, then how come I cannot get Spell Echo and Cold Penetration on my two main skills? I'm not interested in using 4-5 different spells.

This is ass.

There are barely any useful support gems to begin with.
It's worth noting that +2 maps are a dangerous thing.
They can cause players to get out of their depth -
playing maps that are too hard for the items they currently have. Herp Derp.
Only 1 support is fine and to be honest adds depth and decision to the game, something that PoE 2 is already lacking, the problem is that we still dont have enough supports/skills, but that will come with time, that´s one thing i cannot complain.

Exactly - why would you NOT put your best damage supports on every skill you have? And this is exactly why it has to be limited to create real choices. This is why there is NO choice in PoE1. All you do if look what supports will give you more damage in PoB and put that on the skill. In PoE you actually have to think. I keep changing where my supports go in PoE2 because I think of a better idea. And it's not as simple to simulate in something like PoB which combination would be the best. Limting support choices is one of the best decisions they've made in PoE2.

Without restriction: Every skill is mandatory same 4-5 supports based on build including damage increase, crit, penetration, cast/attack speed, ailment boosts. Boring, dull, uninteresting

With restriction: Determine which skills most benefit from what kinds of support skills, which needs speed, which needs more damage, which needs penetration, which is situational, which is for clear, which is for nuking rares/bosses. Requires thought and consideration.

PoE2 so far requires far more consideration into what skills to use and how their supports work and is also built around using more than one skill 99% of the time. With only my warrior advanced beyond act 1 right now, I am using all of my skill slots, even basic attacks get thrown in here and there. I've got my bread-and-butter clear skill (Rolling Slam with armor break)), movement skill (Leap Slam with consecrated ground), a skill with range (Sunder with extra AoE and aftershock), a warcry to empower slams and maintain rage buildup, and two situational skills mostly used for bosses (Hammer of the Gods with with exploit weakness, and the chargeup slam with hourglass). If you only wanna run around with one skill, PoE1 is for you. If you like more interesting interactions and build options, PoE2 is for you. They've built from the ground up to use this system, may as well ask a hero shooter to remove Ultimates.
