TIL It's not -60 to max resistance in lategame but -80..

yeah, no, ummm... this is horrid? It's already pretty painful to give us an additional -20% with the current difficulty of gearing and crafting, though I guess that's gonna fix itself as more and more gearing avenues anter the game,

BUT

If you're gonna do this, AT LEAST MAKE IT BASELINE ON THE CHARACTER. It's super annoying to figure out and it EASILY leads to you thinking everything is fine and NEVER finding out about your resistances cus "they looked fine in my hideout!"

SERIOUSLY, how many times do we have to go over the importance of the game not offuscating mechanics?

People in red maps in PoE2 have better resists than those in PoE1 after kitava2, since it doesn't reduce chaos res any more.

But I fully agree that this should be clearer in hideout

I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
To summarize:

-10% per act = -60%
+20% from campaign = -40%
-10% from tier 6-10 maps = -50%
-10% from tier 10+ maps = -60%

Have I understood that correctly?

When I am stood in hideout my resistances are exactly the same as when I am in a tier 9 map. However, when I enter a tier 10 map, my resistances are reduced by 10%.

Shouldn't the values reduce by 10% when I am in a tier 9 map, an 20% when in a tier 10 map?

Resistances might be the absolute worst, most outdated mechanic in the game.

Seriously just change them to work like armor. You stack up a rating, it translates to a percentage reduction through some obscure formula, and there's a soft cap. No fucking debuff for progressing.
I just tested this out, for science.

My Cataclysm's Wake quest is currently: Complete tier 9 maps.

Uncapped values in hideout: 102 / 100 / 88
Uncapped values in a tier 1 map: 112 / 110 / 98
Uncapped values in a tier 6 map: 102 / 100 / 88
Uncapped values in a tier 10 map: 92 / 90 / 78

Maybe the values while stood in hideout are tied to the map tier you are currently up to in the Cataclysm's Wake quest? That's the only explanation I can think of. Then if you enter a lower tier than the quest tier penalty, it reduces the penalty for that map. Vice versa when entering a higher tier map.

Either way, this is confusing as all hell.

When I progress the quest to tier 10 maps, I will update this / comment again to confirm my suspicion.

its kind of stupid, if Im looking at my gear in town and trying to fix it up for maps then suddenly I get into a high map and my gear is no longer 'there', its annoying
Okay... now it's saying for example my Fire Resistance is 92% (uncapped) while in hideout. Then I enter a tier 10 map and it goes UP by 10%?

It's clear to me that the display of resistance values in the character tab is broken. Hopefully they fix it soon because at the moment it's very hard to determine how much res you need/already have on your gear.

The real complaint is that while it is the same as PoE1, PoE1 has TARGETTED CRAFTING meaning players can get the res they need if they work at it while in PoE2 there is NO TARGETTED CRAFTING and so everyone depends on a crappy RNG-only system.

Wilson wanted GGG to have their own Elden Ring but failed utterly to understand what made Elden Ring what it was.

well good news for you wait till T12+ Maps where if u aint Chaos resist capped in some of them the chaos dmg is a 1shot this was tested with pets having almost 16k health on minions.
