Funding model of POE 1 vs POE 2
|
I understand that the vision for POE 2 is very different for POE 1, and that we should probably consider them very different games, not an original and a sequel.
I'm hoping that when purchasing MTX in the future we can indicate, or even ensure, that our money is going to the game we actually play, both for POE 1 and POE 2 players. Last bumped on Dec 12, 2024, 1:08:27 PM

in 2019 we were told that poe2 would be an expansion/continuation of poe1, now its not as they changed their mind in 2023 but i mean its their money once we give it to them
Add Scion To PoE2

At this point its seems pretty clear that POE 2 is the game the devs wanted Poe 1 to be but because of community feedback on a lot of the ideas the community didnt agree with them on, they put it into POE2. Basically they will use past funding and future funding to fund their passion project, that mostly appeals to ruthless enjoyers. They don't care about the wants and wishes of the Poe 1 fans, this game is made for the devs and their like minded fanboys. They will keep POE 1 on life support to milk the player base dry until people get bored or something better comes along. Giving them anymore money at this point will just further encourage this behavior.

I'm not concerned about the money paid to date really, more going forward. I have well over $1000 of MTX purchases and don't regret it for a second as I've had a fantastic return in terms of enjoyable gaming time.
If POE 2 continues to develop as essentially a ruthless only game, I wouldn't want to play it, nor fund its development. I'm more than happy for those who only play POE 2 to do the same. If they really are going to develop as two entirely different games, we as consumers really need to be able to support the game we play. I'm not saying it's bad that it's different, it is what it is, but I want to fund the game I love, not some other game. Otherwise, I'd simply stop purchasing MTX, which would be a shame. " +1 I think its absurd to let these people get away with teasing this game for over half a decade to release some shit like this with 5 skill gems total that are usable. This is an arcade Diablo like. not path of exile. Im just waiting for youtube to catch up and sink the playerbase. Or for these players to tire out in act 2 cruel |

" Innovation, content, will go into POE 2 its their shiny new game. |

They sure didn't have this while PoE 2 was supposed to be a PoE 1 expansion xD

" I hope not, and that's against what they've promised in the past. But I can't be the only one thinking I really don't feel like buying MTX right now because I don't know what game it's for. It's a strange place for the game to be in, MTX is the primary source of income. Can this really work if people are buying MTX not really knowing which game they are supporting. |
|
" You can hope, but they already said only 10 people are working on PoE1 now. Even large studios with 1000's of employees and 100s of devs struggle to justify keeping older live service games on anything but maintenance mode when the sequel of the game comes out. |
|
" Where have they said this? Everything I've seen seems to contradict it including content in the recent JR interviews. In fact he apologised for having to take some of the POE 1 team temporarily over to POE 2 in the run up to EA. |
