Have the crying succeded already? Drops bit too good.

Started new sorc, got 3 uniques before lvl 3, armour amulet and stick. Everything got predictably trivial and I stand there like a king of derp again, soaking attacks and press whatever to win. Or just luck?
Anyway, maybe the solution is, power creep this to lawnmower level, and introduce ruthless mode for those who can fight, everyone's happy. Last bumped on Dec 10, 2024, 6:46:55 AM

But then the ruthless mode will have no playerbase, like in PoE1, and all the devs who are forcing it on us will be embarrassed and sad!
But honestly, they should. Let this ruthless obsession die. Last edited by fouquet#0993 on Dec 9, 2024, 9:11:49 PM

Start another character and see if it happens again.

" Well, in this case it would be the intended mode, with some item scarcity and emphasis on movement, dodging, tactics and combining of skills, probably much more popular than the roughly cut PoE 1 with all it's simplicity but with loot and movement skills removed. Basic PoE 2 is actually so much more than ruthless, which was just a band aid. Maybe call it hard mode, true mode, or combat mode. Or let the power creeped one become a new one, the lawnmower mode. IDK I don't care how, but if it was to go the zoom way, I'd just like to have that first edition preserved, one way or another. I'd play the lawnmower mode too btw, has its merits heh. |

" Tell you want, you dont have to use the items that drop. It's entirely possible for you to say "I'm only going to use a fraction of the items that drop". Infact, I see there being a useful type of loot filter called "Hard Mode" that really restricts the amount of loot that you are shown. Or, what if there is just a harder mode, one that gives you a cool forum title that lets people know how amazing you are, that makes loot drop less. We can call the mode something cool, Ruthless is taken, so .. Ultra Mode or something.. I think the name can be workshopped. It'd let people play a harder version of the same game. Actually, I think they almost have to put this in so that we can keep a pure version of the vision, and yet, allow wider appeal. Edit: Just a reminder, you are standing there, as a derp, with that loot on because you choose to do that. Take the loot off. Don't equip it. I used to joke about playing Ruthless Ruthless in POE1 where I could use only the loot that dropped, as it dropped in Ruthless and all other loot had to be scrapped into wisdom scrolls and then the person who ended the league with the most wisdom scrolls wins. Could not find anyone to play Ruthless Ruthless with me. I still think he who ends the league with the most wisdom scrolls wins. I'm done buying anything until we get some clarity on the future of POE1 and POE2 and I know GGG plans to spend effort on a game I want to play. Tell us if POE1 still has your top tier support or if POE2 will get a mode for more casual play. Last edited by Ironhide75#7617 on Dec 9, 2024, 9:46:31 PM

You don't understand. I'm not bragging or whatever, and the style of post is just light banter with all the too hard crowd.
It was a question of whether the drops were already adjusted or not. Also, like I said, I can enjoy king of derp lawnmower style too, or I wouldn't play PoE 1. And yes I played a lot of hardcore ruthless, and I never go too much for defense so the monster mechanics work on me. Never used the "logout macro" cheat, and noone who ever did actually ever played hardcore, just cheaters. I have nothing to show for it, it's not for show, I don't feel better than you. The whole notion of difficulty as a means of showing superiority is ridiculous, and reeks of inferiority complex or whatever. It's just, I want to feel like I fight for my life, for me sth to be a game there has to be the threat of failure, I want a challenge to force me to think, or react, or panic or whatever. Playing hc ruthless or hc in any game just makes the whole thing have more weight, I don't even care if I win or finish, but nothing beats entering unfamiliar place with one life and the difficulty set up against you. " You do know that Ruthless is pretty much just beta POE1 with updated content right? POE1 was originally going to be a slower, lower loot and more difficult game. They changed that because it was not as successful as the expected. throwing a dodge (particularly when it is over emphasized in use) and some spell interactions in it won't magically fix why people didn't like beta POE1 like the like the current POE1. |
|
" Maybe, maybe not. It's not only throwing a dodge, it's monster behaviour and telegraphs, timing/ directionality/ contextuality of skills, active blocking, mini bosses, an entirely different type of controls and general requirement of active fighting. 1 was much simpler, kill one kill all then zoom kill all fast. Also, there's the undeserved perception of it somehhow being kind of a soulslike, which could draw a lot of people. Souls fans, Wolcen fans, Grim Dawn fans, Inquisitor Martyr fans, there's a bit of those in basic PoE 2. Last edited by Rabarbar_Lichy#7553 on Dec 9, 2024, 11:17:48 PM

" These bosses don't do anything fancy (I've already seen similar mechanics in Lost Ark). I don't even know why they hyped them up. If anything, telegraphs make them easier. They are fun, but they are not evolutionary to the genre. Hell certain builds even nuke them down in short fashion. The mobs aren't hard because of their behavior, they act like POE1 mobs. They are hard because they have inflated HP and most are faster than the player. None of this fix the issues of difficulty and low drop rates that ruthless brings. The soulslike perception exists because devs planted it there. Grim Dawn, and Wolcen have better loot and difficulty scaling than this game. I'm not sure souls fan will like this either due to the huge reliance on rng for gear and how much gear plays into how strong you are (something almost the opposite of souls games) |

I agree with most of this, it's just another arpg with dodge and some attempt at emphasizing the action part, just with a solid skill tree behind it heh. It's still much more than PoE ruthless, will it be popular, no idea. Diablo 4 also went for slower heavier more moment to moment action and sold quite well, there is the audience but maybe just wasn't interested in the obscure mode or beta of new IP game at the time, idk.
And yes it's not revolutionary and it's not a soulslike. But it's a great attempt at merging proper action with proper rpg, which is imo holy grail of arpg and hard to pull off. |
