Inability to use the same support gem on different skill gems is insane
It feels that way because it is that way.
PoE2 is just Ruthless with better graphics. ~ Seph

i prefer it this way. it makes you really think about what you want to do. if you want an easier game then maybe poe2 is not for you.
i'm stick of all the crybaby ''ruthless 2.0'' statements. ruthless doesn't let you go beyond a 1 link for forever. i hated ruthless. poe2 for me is an engaging, rewarding, methodical experience that rewards you for playing well. it's not for casuals who want to press one button to win. |

it's much better and helps GGG balance the game. Just be patient and wait for someone to write you a guide for you so you play the game.

"This is what will make it "press one button to win. How exactly do figure that restricting supports will make players use more different active skills? |

The restriction on gems would be fine if the rest of the game is done better.
For example, one of the support gems is +AoE. When using Frost Nova, it's AoE is too small, so that even with its knockback affect it is bad. However if you put an AoE support into it, it increases the AoE so that the timing works for interrupting swarm attacks. IE for anyone technically or skill minded it is a manditory need for using Frost Nova. By restricting the support gems it kills the skill and makes it unusable in an already restricted pool. Add to that that they let the Claustrophiliac loose who did the Crab boss in PoE1, this means that there are fights where you cannot dodge because you are in too small space with rapid mobs and rainfall. IE you have to have one of the two AoE with knockback working properly to play skill based. (Or face-tank damage by lifestack or overlevel. Cause yeah that's the kind of gameplay advertised for PoE2! Not!?) Now some might say that you can just take AoE nodes on the tree, so that you don't need the support gem. Okay. So I have to use 14 skill tree points to get some AoE in early game. Ah so why the heck even have a skill tree or classes if I have to go left tree and grab AoE nodes just to play properly. The long and the short is that PoE became so big and popular because it allowed choice instead of replacing effort and intelligence with restriction and laziness. PoE2 still has 'soul', but seems to have lost everything else. Worst being it seems to be making the same mistakes that PoE made over and over again. It's fine to nerf things with the intent of compensating for power later in the game, but it needs to still be functioning and playable (Skillwise. It won't affect facetankers....) New slate. Drop the zealot and the cluastrophiliac and do it right this time! Please..... Universal Law - Balance

" what makes it hard is the badly implemented game mechanics. |

Compared with POE1, the number of options for support gems feels very limited. This places a further restriction on it, which feels bad.
