Theres no gems any more, we get a orb with a skill in it, and then add that to a menu, you cannot buy more orbs and the only skills that it can give you is a limited few that are for that specific weapon. I cant pick a skill in advance and level up to it, I have to pick from one of 3 skills that I dont want to use.
In POE1 you could fill your stash with bought gems of all sorts that do all sorts of skills and give them to your other characters. But since you cannot remove skills and supports any more, you cannot stash them for your other characters. As far as I've seen.
Theres NONE of this "You can combine hundreds of gems in multiple ways, we dont even know all the combinations available in the game" that was a huge lie, because theres so little variety ATM they would be testing them all when they put them in the game later (but not now).
And as far as I've tried, skills are locked to weapon types, so no using a skill that works with a sword (swords are not even in the game yet, DUH) on a club besides them both being melee weapons. Only club only skills usable with a club.
You can literally fill your stash with uncut or cut gems, where is the difference.
What the hell do you want to combine. The system is literally the same as PoE1, Skill gem + Supports. Support gems are different, yes, its not just MORE DAMAGE in every damn link, its better now. You have to remember not all gems are in yet, there will be more support and skill gems. You will be able to wield 2 weapons, so you will have access to 2 different skill categories, Mace + Sword for example.
Regarding weapon types, you dont fucking eat soup with a fork. You don't slam the ground with a sword. You don't stab with a mace. You dont cleave with a wand. You don't cast spells with a bow (although you can/could PoE1, and its bad design). Every instrument has its purpose, so it works just the way it should work.
