Unique Name Requirement

For the love of all that is holy, don't force me to sit at the character name screen trying over and over until I find something that hasn't been used.

i really hoped they would finalyy do something about it in poe2

sadly that didnt happen and its so dame anoying
As I mentioned in another post, I've already requested (and received) a refund. If I'm going to be shelling out a few hundred pounds for a core support pack, I want my specific preference for a character name. I do not want to have to spend time on random name generator sites, or adding ridiculous (to me) prefixes/subfixes to get in to play.
Well, I know it's a tiny detail to many, but I'm seriously considering refunding the game as well.

That's probably the one major think Diablo IV got that is better than PoE II.

I have multiple character names, not a single one is available.
There's absolutely no good reason for unique names.
Assuming it's partly because we use character name to find account name for adding friends, though I'm not sure why we're doing that now considering that we have [account name]#xxxx, seems like character names should've been given the same treatment (with the #xxxx being invisible to players, if needed at all) and just let people add friends via account names.
I must say I support this as well. I went through so many names just to get a somewhat bearable name, which I am not totally happy about none the less.

I've seen 10 years old posts in Path of Exile asking the same thing...
It could have done similar to Diablo or simply allow the option of last names... and "_" or "*" or "." does not exactly look nice either.
Yeah this needs change.
If they're going to have thousands or millions of players and each player can have multiple characters, then they need a better naming system.

Characters need to be able to have whatever names the players want to use and not be unique. It's a solved issue for accounts, but it's actually even more important to do it for characters.

Just add a number in parenthesis during chat/sales related stuff.

So let me name my character Johan and then they can display it in chat as Johan (1432): "Let's do this!"

I always accepted the limitations in PoE1 for this sort of thing, but it's massively disappointing for a game coming out nowadays to not have a very standardized account ID handling all the outfacing interactions in game while letting people name their characters something they'd like instead of "Nameucbegsjf" just to get a unique name

I agree, it's only 7 days in and it's impossible to get any kind of name. There are even people selling names on RMT sites already. It's complete bull and needs to change if GGG wants to win over a larger audience. There's absolutely no reason for names to be implemented so poorly and so far below the industry standard.
