Agree with the others, this is perfectly normal development and I think alot of people don't understand that you can't make the textures and effects look better and better without increasing file size. This is how games have evolved, high capacity SSDs are available to the average consumer and have been for many years now. Sure I agree many places have suboptimal download speeds, but that's neither the developers fault nor should everyone else suffer and get a worse looking product just because some people will need a lot of time to download it.
May I remind everyone of how it used to be in the days of "games were a couple Gigabytes"? Personally I had a 45 KB/s (KILOBYTE) download rate until I was 17. When I downloaded Fiesta Online, a game of, what, 1-2 GB, it took me 10 HOURS to download that shit. I used to go to my friends place with a USB stick because he had a much faster connection and he'd literally download stuff for me so I could copy it. That's how I got league of legends onto my pc. Yeah file sizes are inflated, but download rates have also risen. Honestly I'm stoked that I can download this game in 3 hours despite it being over 80GB Last edited by Ratharan#1957 on Dec 6, 2024, 7:53:17 AM

There are always "just do this" type of sarcastic idiots who think they are stoic or draconic in some way. I imagine them being that weirdo in the corner trying to look cool and mysterious.
And there are always people who say stuff like "X game is 1 TB so this is cool!". Just because there's something worse out there, it doesn't make the subject better by default. You must assess the point on it's own merits. Like, if you cut your hand and I broke my arm, your wound doesn't automatically dissapear. Or if something bad happened to you but something worse happened to me, your thing isn't nothing now. And then there are the apologists, they're cool. What can I say. Better than others. There are only few worthwhile arguements you can make about this: 1) It's not if you compare it to industry standards (What standards? Total War: Warhhammer 3 is 120gb, V Rising is 8. There ain't no standards.) 2) For reasons A,B and C it's not. (Only thing that can be taken seriously. Mostly things in here are situational. Like 4k textures, I'm genuinely happy for you but bro I'm playing 1080p 60fps why must I download what I'll never use, why can't we just do something about that?) 3)It's EA, it'll be better later. (Will it?) Is it crossbow or is it assault rifle? Last edited by Lupus_Sativus#2759 on Dec 6, 2024, 8:26:32 AM

reason probably is: "all your mtx are carrying over".
are those "dead game assets"? not judging but you can't buy many of them them anymore. -- also, it's just the assets of the first 3 acts, if we get 10 acts and endgame later on you can multiply the 86gb accordingly age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill! I don't know where OP has been for the last 4 years. 86GB is actually below average lol

"random EA games are also bloated as fuck"
kinda bolstering my point tbh Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4. If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years. Personally, if in my company my head of tech would present to me an install size of over 30 GB I would classify that as a failure to deliver and it would have the following consequences:
1) I would fire the head of tech and every tenth in the tech department 2) I would hire competent people But I don't run GGG. So we're at ...paper rustling... 92.96 GB. |
