EIGHTY SIX GIGABYTES (86) no matter how good it looks and sounds its bloat guaranteed

Remember the days when Dev's prided themselves on how compressed they could make their dataset? How fast they could page data back and forth because it was optimized. The lost art of tempering your games fidelity with reasonable efficiency? There's no way that 86 gigs isn't 56 gigs of bloated unnecessary 1-2% improvements to audio and graphics fidelity.

Any chance we could get a low res texture pack version of POE2? I hate to think of the patches and league downloads.

I mean at some point its just diminishing returns right? Like did you make all the textures Tiffs or some shit?

Now imagine the new load times... they aren't short in POE1 but they've something like doubled the footprint... A game with ten plus years of content at that.

Imagine the dynamic texture loading slide shows when GGG decides to start using "spawn on top of the player" league mechanics?

Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

I have (until January) for the last 18 years had just 5mbps adsl, so I feel your pain on how big things are these days.
However, 86GB by today’s standards is small for a game of this scale complexity and fidelity.
And 86GB sounds like it’s is the ‘small texture’ version, it’s just shy of 100GB on Xbox Series X (4k textures) ;)

Well, it is still less than Diablo IV with it's 5 bosses, so LOG IN.

Jokes aside, it's just standard nowadays and quality is really high this time around, so in that case it's highly justifiable.

While I play in higher resolution, I support your request for possibility to choose 1080p assets, 4k is one of the reasons it takes that much and SSD is highly recommended.

Games are definitely bloating up but still. D4 is 10 or 15 gigs smaller IIRC, Once Human was ~70 gigs and is an MMO, Lost Arc sits at ~70 gigs also an MMO, Enlisted is a large scale battle WWII FPS with tanks and planes sitting in at like 50 gigs, Palworld is 22 gigs, Icarus is 44 gigs, most of these are very recent or even early access not yet launched games. Thing is I consider a couple of these to be really junky bloated not at all well optimized games, with soul crushing load times that last for minutes.

I've actually forced both Lost Arc and Once Human closed with task manager in the past because I got tired of waiting for a load screen and decided I no longer wanted to play. Both were uninstalled to make room on my SSD for POE2 which is why I freshly recall their sizes one is obviously a few years old and the other very recent.

Is what it is.

86 jigabytes is nothing for a modern AAA game. I have games still in Alpha that take up more space.

For example.

Star Citizen = 117GB
Diablo 4 = 123GB
Cyberpunk 2077 = 84GB
Baldurs Gate 3 = 147GB
Black Myth Wukong = 128GB
Red Dead Redemption 2 = 119GB
Stalker 2 = 153GB

So really for a modern game 86GB is pretty much expected, if not on the lower side of what is fast becoming the norm. It helps having multiple 4TB Samsung 980 Pro m.2 drivers :)

that reminds me, I should buy a 4tb ssd before the tariffs begin.
