[PoE2] Suggestion: Expired League Characters should not Merge into Standard.
|
I think GGG has a chance here to make a big change to standard.
If GGG and the Players would be open to the idea that standard could be its “core” game that’s not influenced by Old Leagues and their economy and their items. So standard could be a place for people that like to experience League Mechanics that go core, but don’t have the pressure to play said leagues for gaining an advantage. A great amount of people like to not get their progress reset, but rather power up characters as much as possible for as long as possible. With the current way GGG handles old leagues, every time a league expires, standard gets flooded with a whole lot of currency and even broken items with “borrowed power”, so there never really is any stability in the Standard economy. If Standard would not get any expired league characters and only Cored League Mechanics, standard would always be a “balanced” experience, with a stable economy and “balanced” character power. A lot of player set themself a longtime goal to have a single Character as powerful as possible, with the absolute minimum/maxing. Of course I think that we still should be able to play with our old league characters, but it should be in a “realm” where character power and item power in their economy doesn’t matter. This could also be a good thing that GGG doesn’t have to think about which and how much currency gets introduced into a different “economy” Last bumped on Dec 3, 2024, 1:30:07 AM

Non-Core leagues being voided isn't the worst idea.
As a standard player from PoE1 for many years i've seen the effects of things transferring to standard, Generally i can't say its a negative but when those items are completely game-breaking and not added to core i do feel like it would be best if those items were lost to the void at the very least. PoE1's Standard is where it is going to stay and probably wont change much but PoE2 standard has a chance to correct some mistakes that it's too late to do anything with in PoE1. but all league characters not going to standard? I couldn't envision that ending well. Either way they can do whatever they want now but it'l be real hard to change later, good luck GGG. That would be....quite a change. It would go against the grain of nearly every seasonal game on the market and in history, plus it would put a hard limiter on the majority of the player base of whatever the length of the league (with no choice).
TLDR.....not going to happen, completely against the seasonal-based design of these kinds of games. Standard literally exists BECAUSE this game is a seasonal game. It functionally serves no other purpose other than to allow players to go beyond the season should they choose to. Starting a new character in standard is somewhat objectively the "wrong" choice no matter what. Or are you advocating a different, seasonal graveyard "standard" mode for some odd reason? " In their concept leagues added to "Core" would go to standard as usual. Leagues that are not added to "Core" would not transfer to the standard league. It's never really been a big problem at least for me but there have been in recent times a few items that made it through to standard from non-core leagues that disrupted things a bit more than usual. " so....the leagues that everybody is generally going to love (high power, high craftability, etc) but has a low chance of going core or staying as-is is just SoL? That is....not a good plan. And then what about leagues that "temporarily" don't go core? Those characters are just in limbo? Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Nov 30, 2024, 12:20:10 PM

" I think that is the idea. Though a simpler solution is to simply not push items to PoE2 Standard without a balance pass for the stuff that would disrupt things severely which they basically already do sometimes just not every time. " Except....that really isn't the main "problem" of standard. The real problem is influx of currency and items, regardless of actual power. It's the inflation and market that makes standard unreasonable to play, NOT the broken items. Nothing can ever or will ever change that, which makes standard the "wrong" choice for new characters, unless you happen to already have a massive bankroll. I would bet more than half of "standard" players have absolutely no idea of the existence of like 90% of the broken items that are floating around. In fact, I would argue that new, shinier toys being dropped in standard only HELPS current standard players because it drops the prices of what "used" to be the best item. But because of the real problem of inflation, even the b-tier is absurdly expensive. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Nov 30, 2024, 12:31:11 PM

" SSF standard would solve the problem. Players could still mess around with their large collection of various league items but don't affect regular standard with it. But at this point standard would be even more dead as it already so there's not really much to win or lose with whatever happens. Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

" I mean...if you read the thread my friend, PoE 2 standard doesn't exist yet. So its certainly not "dead". We aren't talking about PoE 1 standard. I know you like to input the aggression into these conversations, but at least keep it on topic! Starting anew....with PoE 2
