Regarding Blessed Orbs and unhelpful chat message.

Do Blessed Orbs work only on specific items? It didn't work on a normal, and rare Twilight Blades, but worked on normal amulet, and magic ring.

Perhaps the message in the chat window could be made less generic?

"

Generic / meaningless.

and that it is not equipped. If item was a skill gem, make sure it is not in a socket.

At last, something tangible.

If the Blessed Orb does not work on all item types it would be nice if those messages were more specific.

It only works on items that have implicits...

What does a Blessed Orb do?

"
Randomises the numeric values of the implicit properties of an item. Right click this item then left click another item to apply it.

Thus, you need an item that has a RANGE of implicit properties.

For example, an Onyx Amulet has an implicit mod of +X to all attributes, X can be anywhere from 10 to 20. Using a Blessed Orb on a Onyx Amulet that has +15 to all attributes will "reroll" the amulet, and the new one can have any value from 10-20 (including 15, which may look like it did nothing).

A Twilight Blade has no RANGE for the implicit modifier of increased accuracy, every Twilight Blade has the exact same +18% increase. Thus a Blessed Orb doesn't work on a Twilight Blade.

Wands however have Implicit Mods to increase spell damage, thus you can use a Blessed Orb on wands to reroll the spell damage modifier.

Read more about Implicit Mods on the item pages here:

Those messages sound generic because they are generic: you see the same text whenever you use a currency item (say, a wisdom scroll) on something it can't apply to (the wrong kind of item, or empty space in the inventory).

I'm pretty sure that more specific failure messages are on the "to-do" list, though.
I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out.
Heard its twisted dreamed inanity
In a whisper, in a shout.
In the babbling cacophony
The refrains are all the same:
"[permutations of humanity]
are unworthy of the name!"

I'm glad that it makes sense to you. When I'm tired, I read:

"
Gibberish, gibberish, gibberish, gibberish, gibberish.

In fact I read that description several times and never really clicked. In fact even now as I type the reply it still reads like gibberish. EDIT: Yes I get the "implicit property" that much was obvious but why it didn't work on some items? Am I supposed to read an Encyclopedia Britannica before playing?

Nevermind....

That's why I linked you to the item data page here on the website. The item data pages specifically tell you which items have implicit properties, and if they have a range or only a single value.

To summarize the posts above, Blessed Orbs work on:
  • Belts
  • Rings that aren't Iron Rings
  • Amulets

Blessed Orbs do not work on:
  • Iron Rings because they don't have a variable value
  • Weapons and Offhand Items/Shields because they don't have a variable value (The only exceptions to this might be Light Quivers and the new spikey shields that replaced the evasion/energy shield armguards. They have a variable amounts on their implicit mods, but I've never tried using a Blessed Orb on them.)
  • Body Armor/Helms/Boots/Gloves because they don't have implicit values to modify (with the exception of certain high level body armors, which also have not been tested with Blessed Orbs as of yet.)
  • Skill Gems, Support gems, and Portal Gems because they have no implicit values to modify
  • Orbs, Scrolls, Scroll Fragments, Orb Shards, and Quest Items because they are not able to be equipped.

So it does work on the spikey shields and the high-end armors. Good to know. And thanks for pointing out that it works on wands. I had forgotten those.
