"Offending"?

I hate the world today. People get offended by everything. Is he really "offending" anyone, or is someone just getting "offended" because they want to? Look, sure, someone might be offended by what he is saying, but he isn't offending anyone. If anyone gets offended by this shit, it's on them, not OP.

---

The thing is, a lot of casual players don't want to become "good" at a video game, and think that the requirement of being good makes a game less fun. Fun for them is doing/beating everything without a lot of time, effort, knowledge or skills. They "just want to play the game". I get it. I'm a casual too, in a lot of areas of this game. Luckily, in most ARPG's, we can compensate for the lack of skill with gear, and it even seems more true in this league. But that requires time investment and knowledge.

Fuck it, I'm rambling now.

I am your senpai. Ask ArtCrusade.

I imagine people now like farming tons of currencies and breaking the game with op gear items/builds. No time for learning to be weak and miserable. How interestingly people can 'git gud' without learning anything.

Thanks for your reply. You must have a much deeper understanding of the game and the community. Guess it'll just take me some getting used to cauz as of right now I still quite don't get what some players say/do sometimes as if they somehow don't see/feel any cognitive dissonance at all. I believe everybody has every right to be whatever kind of gamer they want to be. Be a casual, be a pro, heck be someone who fucks up every mechanic possible as long as you're having fun. Heck, it's a video game after all what we're talking about here. It only becomes a problem to me that people play a game that they choose themselves, yet clearly they are not having fun and constantly finding things to complain about. Sure be a noob, but don't complain about getting one-shot by mobs b/c you refuse to learn how to build proper defenses. Sure be a casual, but stop complaining about certain items being too inaccessible to you. Sure be a div/hr cultist, but stop complaining about how the game being too grindy or forces you to do content you don't enjoy, and most importantly don't tell new players this is the only way and make them as miserable as you. It's not how people choose to stay casual that bothers me. It's how some people willingly choose to be casuals/noobs for years yet still complain about the game being too demanding/unfair to them all the time, knowing very well (or not) that many of the complaints would've been resolved if only they spent 30 minutes learning the mechanics/game knowledge.

Neither is mine :D
It's good practice writing some coherent paragraphs with arguments from time to time, part of the reason I write it in the first place tbh lol.

C'mon man, in no way was he a "condescending jerk.'

The post was well-written and thoughtful. I read the whole thing because it was well-written and talked down to no one who doesn't already come with snowflake sensibilities.

Well-done ballhog2016

Thanks for the kind words Glorfnde101, I'm flattered! Glad you enjoy it!

...And this is the key. If you're not having fun in a video game, you have three choices:

1) Leave - and find a game more suited for you.

2) "Demand"/try to influence the developers to change the game based on your subjective, personal preferences, either in form of whining or constructive feedback. The latter being the best solution, of course.

3) Alter your own way of playing, or how you are approaching the game, often called "adapt" or "get good" online. This also includes altering your expectations/goals.

ALL of these points can be the right answer, depending on the situation. But point 2 is rarely the right answer, if we're talking about totally changing the vision of a game. PoE will always be grindy, it will always require a certain investment, knowledge and/or skill to "reach the top". If that doesn't sit right with you, point 1 or 3 would be a better solution for you.

"Looked down upon"? Are you the best PoE player in the world? No, you're not. No one is this thread is. Is stating the fact that we all can "get better" an act of "looking down" on us? I certainly don't think so. I KNOW I can be better in all areas of PoE. Having someone telling me that in a non-condescending way is totally OK. And I think this was a non-condescending way; no name-calling, no bitching, no derogatory terms...

I am not and i don't see what it has to do with the matter.

Yes, i do think indiscriminately dismissing peoples complaints with "lol just git good" is looking down on them and people who do that are acting like "condescending jerks" in my opinion.
You are essentially saying that the complainers have no right to complain until they "git good". And that's pretty much what OPs TL:DR does.

I am also fairly sure you'd be pissed if someone did that with you.

Even if it's true that "getting good" can solve the issue the way you say it is important and let's face reality here, not all of us will ever get Ben level skills no matter how much we try. "Git good" isn't a realistic option depending on the person/context so just throwing that line out like that is even worse.

/edit and for the record before another jerk marches in and spouts nonsense, i've killed uber sirus a bunch of times and i still think it's a stupid fight despite knowing how to beat him.

We all know that some complaints are more than valid. I don't think this thread or the OP is dismissing all of them. But you also know that some complaints are a direct result of lack of knowledge and/or fueled by ignorance.

If this thread was being filled with "noob", "no-lifers" or other derogatory terms, I would agree that it's condescending. But it's not (but other people are using A LOT of them in this very thread), and I think it's more or less just telling people that even an ATTEMPT at learning the game and getting better, may actually make the game more fun for you. Because A LOT of players don't even try to seek knowledge or skill before they complain. I think that are the players OP is talking to.

Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
