Why is everything plummeting in price?
I logged in this morning and noticed almost EVERYTHING is plunging in price. Just wondering is it because there aren't enough buyers due to not enough players? I've seen stuff drop in the past, but not like this!
You would think that due to how easy it is to make divines and get currency that the price would be going up or stabilizing, but not dropping like a rock like it is. Again the only thing I can think of is people quitting the league forcing sellers to drop their prices. Any other theories? Last bumped on Feb 8, 2024, 9:14:49 AM

Speculation: Maybe it's linked to the fact that
BTW, you are correct... in a normal market (no bots / no rmt) if players left the game the prices would go down. That's not what we usually see in the game though, so no idea.

EDIT 1 --------- Receipts: GGG's post on the usage of third-party tools that has led to many people getting banned, The vast majority of players quit by the 4th week, prices usually freeze from week 4 until week 10 - 14, then they drop. I still don't understand what invisible hand magically holds the prices when the vast majority of players quit the game... but whatever. ![]() We are in the 8th week, bit early for the prices to plumet. ![]() --------- EDIT 2 --------- Struck out the word " --------- EDIT 3 --------- Realized people with dyslexia might have issues identifying the question mark in the speculation paragraph. I went ahead and highlighted in bold font and gave it a space. 🤔 Maybe I should add two more question marks ??? --------- EDIT 4 --------- Noticed an inaccurate sentence related to the necro post. It's now been struck out. Finally, the post was too long for my taste and I placed all the edits into a spoiler. Last edited by BlackMarshes212#1072 on Feb 6, 2024, 6:19:10 AM

I think some of it is people leaving, we're 2/3rds of the way through the league. I also imagine people are getting to the point where they don't need "x" chase item any more. I also think that not enough people were willing to pay 1 mirror for a timeless jewel or c-average Ventor's? Some of the prices trying to outfit my MF build were just Lol level. I rolled the timeless myself for a few divines.

Maybe less liquidity mid league and with the gauntlet happening. E.g. fewer buyers than sellers of big ticket items. Also prices hugely inflated due to the absurd drop rate of divines with mf - so larger fluctuations more likely.
Things it probably isn't: rmt, banwaves, market manipulation by the poe illuminati, aliens. |

" I updated the reply with graphs, It took me some time to find one of the graphs. So, I apologize if the text seemed too farfetched at a glance. I'm barely an arm-chair-apprentice economist. I took like 3 college classes on economy, had all my final exams exonerated. Whatever that's worth, right? I still feel like I don't know anything tbh, but I do have the basics down. I don't know what usually holds the prices for 10 weeks in spite of the vast majority of players leaving the game. You could say, people price items and forget to change the price for 10 weeks? or, the simpler answer it's kept as high as possible by the bot / rmt'ers that benefit from the price of binary data to be as high as possible? In truth, only an actual economist working at GGG could explain it. For now, it's either magic 🔮🪄 or 👽, definitely not RMT / Bots. For reference, here is what happened during the 2020 massive bot ban wave: https://imgur.com/7yGjjKm. Spoiler: prices tanked. |

Thanks all for your replies. Some good theories on what might be happening. And the thing is, we don't know how much the league will go on for. For all we know it could be another 4 month league with the next league not starting until April.

" Yea, Divines will probably drop to about 25 chaos each by the end of the league at the rate they are falling now. All I know is that when you can't farm anything for much profit anymore, then I know it's time to quit, and we are getting close to that already. Pretty sure its just from low demand and... in this leagues case, extremely high supply. The league mechanic drops stacks of them, you see the same pattern with uniques that drop, which normally, would be expensive (mb, HH, Aegis, Taste, Squire, etc..)
The people left playing probably dont NEED/want divines and have a crap ton of them. Mash the clean Last edited by Mashgesture#2912 on Feb 5, 2024, 8:06:15 PM

" There is no indication that they have, you would expect at least a few posts about it on the forums but i see nothing...where as the run up to Christmas and the few weeks into Jan there were planet of posts about bans. Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi
