Ruthless mode
" Mate, the last thing I said in the discord was that I wish we had charged compasses. I have made multiple discussion posts on the ruthless subreddit about the kind of changes I would like. If you want to have a sincere discussion about this mode you need to leave whatever personal drama you have at the door. Referring to drama from other platforms just makes it look like you're here for drama instead of talking about the game, strawmanming people in the process just makes it worse. It's easy for Jonathan to make statements like 'we aren't going to work on ruthless much more' because that appeases the masses, they want to hear that the thing they hate and spit on is getting less attention after believing that it was the main focus of GGG all along or whatever. But the reality is that ruthless barely had any attention to begin with. It is the result of a bunch of balance changes for which players have clearly been the WoL testers. Which builds into the main point here - ruthless doesn't need much more attention to be enjoyed, it's going to get the same kind of care it's always had (at least now that Hrishi is back from holiday). What it really needs more is better guides and information for players, as a lot of the more prominent complaints come from people making poor choices or simply mismanaging expectations. The variety of 'things you get to do in maps' this league has gone up by like 200%, but we hear the same complaints about league mechanics parroted by people who aren't considering the effect that will have on game balance. Either way PoE 2 beta access is not very far away, I am going to jump ship to it once it launches so I have no issues with ruthless ceasing to be a thing in a year or two. I was here talking about this in this thread before you though... But I'm only here for drama? Interestingly self centric viewpoint there.
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years. |

" I'm just lumping what multiple people have often said when i bring up streamers. Wasn't intended to be an insult, we all have bias' we all have the same collection of them in fact. I'm just saying that when people dismiss the fact that almost none of those guys stick with ruthless (just Kripp for a while basically), it feels unjustified. " I'm talking about the fact that your immediate response to the first person to argue against you is some weird kind of libelous callout which does nothing but drag down the tone of this forum. I would like to believe that we are capable of discussing this game mode and having disagreements over it without such mud-slinging. As I said if you follow the ruthless discord, as you claim to, you'd know that I've argued both against certain desired changes and in favour of others. One day I was arguing for veiled mods to make a comeback in some balanced form and the result of that was Hrishi weighing in with some fascinating dev insight on why it's not easy to reimplement. You are entitled to your opinion, but you are posting on a public forum, so you are going to get people responding to you who are not in favour of it. It's better for everyone if you focus on how to substantiate your thoughts further (which you have not) than look for a personal remark you can make about someone. Good, in-depth disputes about the mechanics and features of the game can help reveal a lot about how different people play it and can even be of use to the devs; 'aren't you that guy who'-type discussions cannot. |
