SG server: 3/4 instances I make are 280 ping, normal ones are 40

Same problem still continues, can't even stand in my hideout.

As far as I understand, it's an ISP problem, they take inefficient routes to GGG's servers to cut costs, and there isn't much GGG can do about it. The problem would go away after a month when the extra servers GGG booked for leaguestart expire.

Otherwise, the only thing on our end that can be done is either contact our ISP, buy VPN or switch ISP. I intend to switch ISP even though PoE is the only service affected, knowing that they can screw me with routing any time. Fuck Viettel, cheap bastards.

I'm fairly certain it has nothing to do with your ISP or a VPN. My wife and I play from the same room in our house, both hard wired in to Frontier (our ISP). We open a map and its just random, sometimes I get the 2k+ ping and she gets 15, sometimes its the other way, sometimes neither of us are stuck with the bad ping and sometimes its both. It feels completely random, but I can tell you it wasn't like this until 3-4 days ago.

I've already gone down the route of calling our ISP out of frustration and it didn't resolve anything as they don't see any issues and the issues doesn't exist in any other game/scenario outside of PoE currently.

They have multiple server providers, every instance you open you randomize the provider you connect to. In my case every GSL server I connect to results in 280 ping, while Softlayers (their usual providers) are 40. My ISP routing to GSL is just bad.

Also both problems exist, while there's a lot of routing issues, there's a lot of GGG issues or server provider issues too, which is why it's such a shitshow. GGG acknowledged EU server problems.
Ok, tonight 19/20 instances had 280-320 ping. All other services are normal. I guess it can get much worse.
I looked around and, well, as someone said in a post above this, GGG kinda cheaped out by using another datacenter other than SoftLayer, which is GSL - Global Secure Layer. This whole 400 ms in some instances then 40 ms in some instances was caused by that change. GSL routing is absolutely horrible.

GGG if you read this either ditch that after this league or ask for fixes from their side. Because buying a GPN (like exitlag for example, they are expensive but atleast they work as a fix) every new league is rather frustrating, I could have used that money on points in POE instead?
Ok, beat my anxiety and sent my ISP an email this afternoon (their online tech support ghosted me lol). Specified it was a routing issue, with Path of Exile, with GSL servers.

Tonight, ping was instantly down to 100 ms on bad instances. Now this could be coincidental and had nothing to do with my email, but I'd like to think I did it. Yay.
Hi

Finally I got hit by this as well (EU, Frankfurt, Amsterdam): every 5-6 sec ping increases to >300 ms. Checked the route with WinMTR and I noticed everything is routed over some hop in AUS (!) (206.148.26.80) operated by GSL Network.

Having done some searching I found
- this issues exists globally (players from asia, even AUS complain), so IT IS NOT YOUR ISP
- GGG is a client of GSL
- GSL ("Global Security Layer") offers 'inline DDOS protection'

So either GSL/GGG are facing serious issues with DOS and/or they just made a bad deal with a global network provider that does not deliver what would be needed to play this game and have fun.

You can submit a support ticket to GSL and have them look at the issue. I did it twice and they reduced my ping from 320ms to 180ms, then 50ms. They are very helpful. Describe your problem (routing), provide screenshot and specify your ISP.
