sorry, too long didn't read all, but I was not talking about dealing damage, I was talking about builds which also includes defensive layers, many of them, dealing with sloppy reaction times, so if you are getting one-shot all of the time, you are probably missing some

Yea I mean RF has this reputation for being tanky that somewhat true but is also overblown but FWIW I'm pretty sure most older players going slow are already building tanky characters... its a big part of why the characters are slow. Assuming they aren't though then sure this is good advice.

Sadly it doesn't fix the issues being discussed. If you want an authoritative take on why then just read the quote in my sig from the most accomplished player in the games history.
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

And I respect that POE should have some content for those player. But I also want to point out that the Spirtual successor to Diablo 2 should not have progression gating that hard caps Diablo 2 lovers from participating.

Don't misunderstand me...I agree with you. 99% of my post was AGREEING that the base game is just too fast and too reliant on split second reflexes.

My only disagreement was heavily telegraphed boss fights which are...heavily telegraphed. Pretty easily dodged even by my slow ass after learning how the fights work. Ubers are designed for the pinnacle reflexes of gamers...but the normal bosses are absolutely attainable and killable by pretty much any style of player (barring some type of serious physical limitation).
This tread is extremely weird...

Legit curious: What is "old" for you guys? Like 80? 90?

Because feels like you guys are talking like developing parkinson is the normal way people age

Now, its legit that the game have piss-poor visibility and if the point is that older people cant SEE important stuff among the clutter and unfriendly collor schemes, thats legit, but hand dextery and reaction required on poe is really on the lower end on the gaming scale. Even super juiced content that would demand intense reflexes are mitigated by the game enabling characters clearing screens before the player is even aware of the monsters

Maven memory game is not elderly-friendly? Sorry, but its teached in medical schools that people are NOT supposed to lose this sort of super short term memory with age, if you cant see the glows on the floor thats one thing, as is getting confused if something(like the rotating lasers) distracted you every other attempt, but if you consistently cant remember a 6-items pattern, thats NOT age: its actually a sign you might want to talk with a neurologist

The execution is not something impossible either: Just look outside the poe microcosm: the fighting game community have a significant portion of the players between 40 and 60s, many quite high ranked too. One of the more popular games among the 50+ y old people are mario platformers that require sharper execution and more reflexes than basically anything poe have to offer, even first and third person shooters have decent amounts of fans that were young adults back on the original doom days(and that is, ofc, not counting the people who led an active life and are deep into their 70s and are perfectly capable of outrunning AND outlasting the average dude in his 20s-these are not freaks of nature, btw, esp outside big cities they are actually not even uncommon)

Poe is very much on the friendly end of the scale execution-wise. If we talk about ubers, maybe thats a different beast, but the base game is perfectly doable for any normal person. Even if you need some failed attempts to get some player experience, that just mean the game is not absolute braindead
The balance of this game can't even be called a joke because its not funny, its just sad.

I remember that one interview where someone asked what the dev thought about defense in poe 1. The answer? '' We think its in a good spot ''

I was like '' Are you fucking kidding me? ''

At this point its not that I think dev play character with only t1 mods and can't see the issue. Its I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't touch the damn game and just put random number.

Thats why I find it funny when I hear people being hyped for poe 2 the balance of this game is going to be a joke. They haven't been able to balance this game for at least 5 years if there is something both them and blizzard share, its the lacking of balance in game they make.
Why am I still here
There's a lot of parts and design flaws that led up to current PoE's "Just Keep Moving" design.

At this point the game entirely runs off twitch burst damage mechanics because there really isn't much else they can do. While the game is fast, it actually demands less attention than ever.

About the best you're going to get is going into a new boss blind.
This is why they won't let go of AN despite it reinforcing these very same flaws.

I almost don't want to tell you whats ahead, I struggle with this with my kids... warn them how fast things go, or let them enjoy until they find out the unfortunate truth.

Your post reminds me how many 38 year old sports stars just don't realize they've lost it, and keep trying well past the point where their skills are no longer in the same league they are in. E-sports gamers go through this as well, there are some freaks and edge cases for sure but most normal ppl decline measurably and significantly faster than anyone would like.
