"Force Move" button?
To start with, I've never really liked the click-to-move, click-to-attack, click-to-do-everything controls of every top-down dungeon crawler on PC, but still almost every game seems to do that - I still love the genre with all the loot and theorycrafting and stuff, but my biggest problem with them are the controls.
After playing Diablo 3 for a while, I noticed how much better it feels to play when you have one button specifically for moving, and you click only if you want to attack. As an example, you can use Force Move to run through/to a pack of enemies as a ranged class, so you can be sure to actually move that way instead of accidentally clicking on a mob and cast whatever ranged spell you have on your leftclick. Same goes for trying to run away from melee aswell, of course. Having this tiny improvement in control of your character makes it easier and more enjoyable to play - I am actually enjoying the controls of "mouse only" dungeoncrawler for possibly the first time ever. Personal specifics, but I bound my Force Move button in D3 to my mouse's thumb button, so I use my thumb when I want to move and click/use keyboard only if I want to attack. It did take a day or two to get used to it, but after I learned to remember the existence of the move button, I no longer click to move at all. TL;DR: I would really love to see a "Force Move" button added to PoE, as much as I'd like to see it become a standard for the genre. A simple button which does nothing else but makes your character move towards your mouse pointer, no matter what you are pointing at. Other buttons would still work as normal, if you click on an enemy with a melee attack bound to your left click your char would run to that target to attack, if you click on ground you'd move there, etc. Last edited by Genoce#1410 on Jun 3, 2012, 6:50:35 PM

This would be great. I have a witch character and the only time she ever fires her wand is when I'm trying to flee and accidentally click where a monster is. Pretty frustrating.

Idea is quite good, but I see it more like a command button, not switch.
It wouldn't take too much to reprogram this definitely... |

I agree that this is a very good idea.

This has been suggested before (though I don't actually remember which thread), and I believe the response then was, overall, positive. I suspect it's not quite as easy to implement as it seems, or that there are other drawbacks to implementing it (or, they just have a lot on their plate already).
I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out. Heard its twisted dreamed inanity In a whisper, in a shout. In the babbling cacophony The refrains are all the same: "[permutations of humanity] are unworthy of the name!" |

Well, when I want to attack with the same skill as the one bound to the left mouse-button, I hold shift. I usually want to stand still regardless of melee or ranged attacks and not accidentally move around and waste time when I was supposed to perform an attack.
I've done that for years in these kinds of games and still do. When I want to move, I don't hold shift (and, well, try not to click anything other than the ground). It's a nice thing to get used to. A solution that would work perfectly for my behavior would then be that clicking without holding shift = always move regardless of what is clicked. |

I would definitely like this, and my CTRL button is free anway.
Would remind me a bit of Diablo II, where CTRL was constantly held down to run. Last edited by golem09#3277 on Jun 5, 2012, 3:18:45 PM

yep a move to button would be very nice
+1 to this (but pls, if your gonna make it, make it to be able to bind to ANY key) If you wish for a key? pray to the allmighty Keysus. If you want a speedy Blessing? Donate to the church of Keysus and ye shall receive a Blessing.
*Disclaimer- This is now a vintage saying* |

It would be great if we, as the player, could just assign nothing to left click. Right now basic attack is set by default. I feel this would solve the issue.

Well, the one thing about a move button that would be good is if you had left click only be the default weapon attack and not make you move. So if you misclick and enemy at least you don't go running at him like an idiot.
Honestly, though, if targeting is improved I just don't see any need for this, or appeal. |
