That's what i'm thinking every time someone brings up the mighty intimidating poe skill tree. It really wouldn't be all that intimidating if one would be free to experiment, instead of getting punished for not following someone else's min max build, which screams elitism and is boring.
How is a new player supposed to know what is important in later levels? They can't without experience, and then when their build fails they are supposed to level a new character in a dated campaign, i think most players would rather play something else at that point, and it shows in the numbers.
It would be such a simple change to make it free to respec and would allow many more players to have fun with the game, instead it's being ignored and laughed at when players leave the game quickly after trying it. I really don't understand these decisions.
And there are players that want to start with a level 100 direct and have ubergear to just test that also. It would be easy to do it that way to. People who don't want to find loot not fitting that character. Easy to fix, do as Diablo.
Then next person think it is boring that you roll mana when you need Life, it is easy to fix. Let all player decide what to roll. No effort, just get what you want, have fun a day, ruin the game!
How are you even thinking? I want to be the best football player in the world - what do I have to do then? Would itr be fair to all that train hard as heck and then you and me just take thier places andf play the Champions League instead?

I just don't think, and i sure hope so, GGG/PoE isn't about player numbers... I often say to people that if you need a guide to have fun, you might not be really having fun. some of us find it fun to learn the hard way on out mistakes. it makes it much more meaningful when you discover something good
True! Word! Its enough those players killed Diablo. Satiesfying everyone will satiesfy noone in the end!

I think it is very naive to believe a big company with investors is about anything other than numbers, as sad as it is. I understand there are people who like it hardcore, but that could always be an optional toggle, i'm all for options and letting the players choose their experience, i thought that was kind of a strength of this game.
people can chose their experience, you pick your class, you pick your skill, you pick your passives. you wanna make a certain character? great, go do it, thats the whole point of the game.
i dont want to relevel though the campaign again to make a new character. you know why? because ive played this game for over 15,000 hours.
when we start talking about new players and say that having to play through the campaign a second time to make a new character is 'punishment'... yeah this just isnt the genre of game for that sort of person, which is fine.
at some point yes, its not about making money. this is a pc game, not a mobile game. so right away a decision has been made to make a specific sort of game and not just make whatever game makes the maximum amount of money. this entire game is built around endless decisions that were not motivated by maximum financial return.
i never followed a guide in 2013 when this game went into open beta. i made a character, learned from it and was excited to make and play another different character because this is a game, you play it, and its about making characters and i enjoyed the game. if you play the game once on one character and the thought of playing the game again isnt appealing then you just dont like the game. theres no point destroying the game for people who like it to let people that dont like it essentially skip to the final page of the book and say oh, thats how it ends... and im on to the next thing...
theres no need for that to happen. if you dont want to read the whole book put it down go find another.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Soon I will sue you. Didn't you paste what I have been writing :)
This is the dangerous _if_ devs start listening to greed and get richer than needed. We will end up with games that are so bad and destroed no one can enjoy them. I am glad (and I hope it stays so, and if they turn wrong, push them back) this game had focused on - making a good game instead of thinking (making the most profitible game).
Thats one and almost only reason I have support it so hard. I enjoy as long as I can. Hard finding really good games no matter what genre you look in. And a lot of them has bad replayability (not know what it is called).
Roll up the sleeves and lets start playing some cardds folks!
First off, it rarely takes more than 40-50 regret orbs to completely respec a character. Even if you want to change ascendencies. Many of the travel nodes will remain consistent so if you are smart about it you can do it pretty easy.
It’s is not hard to farm up regret orbs either, between Tujen and converting chance to scour to regret orbs with some target farming you can get a 100 or so in a regular play session of 4-6 hours. Which by the way is about the same amount of time it should take for a second character to run thru the campaign with hand me down gear.
I used to think like you. PoE showed me I was wrong. Attachment is a product of effort. You will not care about your characters or builds if all they require to create is a few minutes of clicking buttons. If you just go with it and keep playing it will make more sense.

Nice summarize!
That explained everything - maybe because I know all around it. I try to explain but don't think I will succeed - I hope they understand this better. "We" do at least.
Everythibng is the same but different object and places. Why did Diablo made it that way it only drops class loot? Every step like that (reskill in two sec and ...) are so devastating.
I am glad there are enough to understand and hopefully more will!

just don't get too attached... every build/character is one line of patch notes away from dying a terrible death
That's only in your head!
You would not believe me when I am saying this ... My character I am playing has the best gear you can get in this game. Do you know why it is true? Because it is in my head. If I thought I was running around with trash - that would just be a long long long road with hard boring work to get what is best.
This is the main problem og 90 percent of everything people complain about. And it is sad, because the important things that we should and do complain about is just something hard so find in all this mess.
And I will give you a bit of right what you wrote - and I am thinking of exploading man in mines act 4. If they, make him "worse" again, put away the yellow warning circle and that, and he will insta kill everything up to level 60 lets say. That is just bad, those things are the important.
Nerfing and buffing a bit here and there desnt matter over all.

well fk me, everything is in yo head. This conversation is in yo head
However if you change the proc rate of BV so my Aegis no longer procs with 25% of single hit of BV my build is pretty much broken- and that is pretty hard to get OUT of my head. I can scrap Aegis and get some other way of mitigating Reflect but this is not my character anymore. its just another BV build type C
More words - less BV and I will reread! It is a mess to get through and by purpose by you (not it should be a mess but the things made it a mess for me).
