anyone else hate new league mechanic?

Enemy mobs are waaaay to tanky... your team dies in 1-2 hits ... wtf again no one tested this?
It's mildly interesting to realise that (aside from trading, I suppose) this may be literally the first thing they've put into the game - ever, since its inception - that's an actively negative experience for me. There's been plenty of little things I haven't liked, but that's just...not liking something, that's fine. This minigame, as it is, has succeeded in actually making me feel like shit on a personal level. That's unpleasant.

Early thoughts:
Spoiler
I think for starters that's to do with the contrast between how matter-of-fact the game plays the whole thing to begin with, compared to how unintuitive and unfair the setup actually feels (early on at least; I'm only in Act 3 at this point). Like, there's no 'storyline' about being the newbie and expected to fight your way up, no tutorial battle showing you the ropes, it's all just 'here is the mechanic, think carefully about your choices to achieve victory', which makes it feel like it's all very even and winnable, like most league mechanics tend to be even early on. And then the match starts and nope.

You lock yourself into a match selection without being able to see what you're up against. It's not at all clear whether the rewards are tied to match difficulty, or whether the game is offsetting what it deems weaker item rewards with more favour, or what. Maybe I have 3 pieces while my opponent has six, maybe I'm facing a whole team of flask-drainers, maybe their champion has some silly nuke in an element I don't have much resistance to, oh well, too bad.

The place-your-pieces thing makes it feel like it should be down to strategy - and I'm not suggesting it isn't as you get more choices - but it seems pointless when my starter pieces are too basic to be trusted to fill any role. I feel stuck in the role of flanker-chasing because if any totem gets left alone for five seconds it's gone, but then sometimes that flanker is wildly tanky and neither chasing them nor leaving them alone seem good options anymore. Scale the other teams way down at the start so we have a chance to learn the structures. Or if the game isn't supposed to be reasonably fair at low levels, just don't make it accessible at low levels. Even when I win it doesn't feel like I did anything particularly differently to when I lose, so it's not really rewarding.

I was baffled by the lack of long-term progression, buying up people for my team only to have them disappear at the end of the tournament. This seems like the perfect league mechanic for some long-term team-drafting - I thought it'd start by 'picking a side' for starter pieces or something, but nope. At some point around Act 2 I got a fourth person on my team, but the game didn't tell me why; they were just there. They're from a particular tribe; was there a way I could have chosen, through the opponents I selected or won against? Is it just level related? How would I know?

The zone itself feels like it could use some more life - and yes, yes, I understand the irony there, but a whole vibrant culture's afterlife reduced to ten people standing in a brown room forever feels almost disrespectful. And I don't understand why I'm even there in the first place. I found a coin, which are apparently all over Wraeclast. Okay. Why do these spirits care. Why do I care.

Edit: Just won the tournament for the first time, level 43. I can see the potential; when it's working it works quite well - "okay, they've got two flankers on that side, I'll need defenders there", "that's an idol rather than a warrior so if I prioritise the other frontliner at the start I can cripple that side quickly", etc. Once I had five, six units and some equipment for them the placement choices were more interesting.

My main concern about this win is that it was really smooth sailing after the first match; doing well may be a little too reliant on rolling an easy first win so you stay ahead in favour. I guess I'll see whether progress continues or if I go back to a losing streak.

Seems I may have jumped the gun with the 'no long-term progression' thing too as some units joined when I won - though it said "they will fight for you in the next tournament" so maybe it's literally just the next one and then they disappear? That'd be a shame.

Tried it the first time at lvl33, and I actually like it lot. I like the absolute certainty of rewards, exactly what I loved about Sanctum.
I think it's too early to judge, i tried it a bit and don't like it but just like most leagues, they are extremely punishing and not meant to be done while leveling.
I think the mechanic should be fun enough in maps. However, I'm getting very tired of over-tuned leagues that steamroll you during the campaign. I just want a break in the action and grab an item or two... It's completely antifun.
At low levels balance makes no sense, complete waste of time. Ill try again when i get to maps.
I cannot be caged.
I cannot be controlled.
Understand this as you die, ever pathetic, ever fools!

this league mechanic is just once again dps check if you got dps you can easy to do it i wish ggg sometimes made league mechanics wich would favor more defensive builds not dps but i guess that aint ever happening
It seems to me that you focussed all your attention on exilecon and with 2 weeks before release date realised you had nothing and stuck this thing on top of the standard game, as lets face it if you ignore this mechanic all you have is the untouched standard game.
If you hadnt noticed this thread should be called sarcasm, negative replies are not the thing here. Positivity through negativity is the way to go.
tbh it's a joke the enemies barely die and if they do they revive before u can siphon anything. oh and ur allies die from 2 hits like who thought this shit was balanced???

also can't really look at the others team cause if u do u have to fight them.

edit: if u put them all in flanking then in defence then in whatever it's not even that bad.
3.26 when?
Don't abandon us. don't turn your backs on the ones loving poe.
