Charge for global chat to prevent sales bot spam
"That is a ridiculous claim that you can't possibly back up with any evidence. A slightly attentive person would notice that global chat is in use constantly, which implies that quite a bit of players use it. The constant stream of questions very similar to the ones Saela listed implies that many new players do use the chat often, and to ask such questions. I'm not trying to sound mean, but you're totally wrong about this. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

" Too suggest a game that will have thousands of people on it will have a majority using global chat frequently (specially on these types of games)is more of a ridiculous claim. But I guess no point in arguing over it, but I can tell you right now global chat in diablo 3, diablo 2 chat channels, is not used by a player often and spammed to hell except diablo 3 the spam stops for weeks because they get banned. But then on diablo 3 they are banned and lose money. Infact even diablo 3 forums use the purchase requirement to prevent spam and punishment. Yet global chat needing a level or purchase requirement would be too much? I just got a great idea actually.. Let there be a basic global chat for people like you who wouldent mind spam, then premium full leauge player global chat for players who pay 50 coins for it. If you add this ggg, ill buy it. I guess if theres atleast a click name, ignore account option, i'll live. I see myself needing to shut off global chat once game goes live though, if nothing is thought of. "Assuming this is true, it's even more silly to require people to pay to use something that they rarely ever use. Essentially, what you're asking for is a chat channel that you can sit in to avoid spammers. The only problems are that there would be only a few people in it, and that would still include the same spammers that are in the other chat channels. They're not afraid to spend money to advertise; I've already talked about that. If the item-selling business in PoE is worthwhile, the spammers would join your exclusive little channel no matter how you restrict it. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

I was thinking of buying a supporter package. If you start charging for global chat, I probably won't.

The biggest flaw in Creation's post is that people actually do use the global chat frequently, ever noticed the chat during the open weekends? it's literally flooding with messages. And amongst it, no spam. I don't see the problem, as long as the team has a dedicated bunch of people that look over the chat and spank the spammy ones, there should be nothing to worry about.
Also, restricting honest people from communicating with other people on a global channel is ridiculous. |

Simple solution. Easy-to-report button. When you get enough reports you get banned from all chats. You can appeal and admin will review. Possibly punishing fake reporters.

I agree that moderation is the proper response. I use global chat a lot but definitely don't want to pay for it.
When the game goes live GGG will probably moderate themselves and get new employees. Of course I would love to see our forum moderators in the game moderating chat. They usually do a good job on the forums. Most of them seem like nice guys. They said I was mad! They said it couldn't be done! But now who's mad?!?! Report button...but that won't be a problem since we won't see gold sellers anyway. No need to make people pay for something as basic as a chat lol.
Report button!! I hit him in the temple and he began to convulse like a retarded Hillbert. Mike Tyson

Some of the solutions proposed seem rushy and against the essence of good engineering, since there is no problem and the solution brings nothing at all except for limitations.
People can still join your game, talk to you, use local chat or whisper you even. People can name their groups and their character however they want. The speculative issue is not solved with heavy restrictions on global chat. Also, what bothers you may not bother me, I'd be overly satisfied if I can filter my chat with regular expressions in a config file, avoiding clutter on the interface. That way I can hide some pretentious answers when someone asks a question in global chat, while not imposing my ideals on others. |
