I think you are overselling them quite a bit. Yes they are very good.

As a career necro and spectre proponent, I would be interested in hearing what other spectres you feel are currently above minimum viablity standards, given the landscape of minion changes over the last 4 or so leagues.

There's others, Baranite Preachers for example were completely busted previously bearing a very high critical rate over other monsters, GGG thankfuly nerfed them and they are still very strong to this day with the right build behind them.

There's a couple others from the current crucible patch which are a bit OP with the right investment but the frostbearers were the first pet that ever made me abandon my character because it was too easy, everything else has almost always taken investment.
