It's not, it's pretty much the same as applying curses and exposure to an enemy so you are not going to win any damage out of it. Besides that there are better boss killer abilities thab fire trap if you want to have a powerhouse boss killer lol, or even better choices for more damage like ele or inq

It will be more defensive than elementalist, for HC players it might be pretty good. No penalty Melding, but i mean PoE players will complain no matter what so...... whiniest community in gaming .

I want better balance to, accept the fact that they are focused on PoE2 and PoE 1 is too bloated to ever balance properly.

I highly recommend to not stand still during boss fights. If you can face tank all mechanics then you are better off standing still and self casting curses and WoC.

Who said stand still? Move throw a trap , move again. At times you are still and this is when resistances would be ignored. I play strictly in HC, i am well aware of the consequences of not dodging.............

Again, PoE players gonna complain about something no matter what GGG does. Live with it or go play something else. I am excited to try something new , beats playing the same old shit all the time. If it sucks that is unfortunate il just have to play something else :)

So the node is a massive dps loss since you cant use curses or exposure and it only applies a portion of the time. Its just not a good node.

I agree the community here loves to complain but just because we are providing feedback that a change is garbage doesnt make us wrong. I think the feedback in most of these threads that shine chieftain in a negative light have been largely constructive as well.


And just to throw some math in here.

Ele weakness + flammability + exposure (-18 with the mastery) and combustion = -97 fire resistance. So against a boss you have near 100% uptime of their resistances being -47 vs their resistances being 0 for half the time if we are being generous.

Most of the new chief looks pretty nice to me. Not the strongest ascendancy, but ima play it. The dot node though has interesting wording, and its usefulness will depend on whether it stacks with minus resists, or replaces them like inquisitor.

HC players would play fire trap just as a rf jug anyways if they want to go full ham on def since it offers much more defensive layers than just some extra max res across the board. Even 90 max res isn't going to safe your ass if the rest of your ascendancy offers nothing else. Not to mention you have to waste so many points to add what's lost which is also a damage lose or lose of defensive nodes. But hey all non rf fire trap players play ele in HC so clearly not a terrible choice.

Idk, it's more than reasonable to be upset about the changes cause it simply kills so many builds out of existence. Old chieftain wasn't even meta to justify the change to begin with lol.

Its bad. Compare the old and new. Valako, Storm's Embrace is the biggest one for me. Its not something you just patch up easily on an existing build. Again I have to spend time in POB just to get to the same place I already am. Neverending work in this game. I feel like my builds are boats that have random leaks introduced every league that I need to fix when I just want to hop in and have fun mapping.

Mmm, seems I am not crazy, outside of the few if you don't like it then go home mentality ones, a lot of negative reactions to this and even guardian isn't liked at all.

I do agree, guardian got slapped around like an alterboy during prayer time... chance on kill summon as a second link completely removing onslaught and minion damage... unless that summon exclusive to him is baller as all hell he's going to remain one of the least played.

This seems to be the running theme, you look at all the newer ascendancies, damage removed, damage removed, damage removed.

They are starting to force extended grinds and when poe 2 comes out, it seems support gems will lose their damage boosts too, going from a fun zoomie arpg to diablo (gold too), GGG if this is coming from tencent, tell them to sod off before they knee cap the crowd who likes speed gaming.

They want slow and steady, give them a link to grim dawn or diablo 4 and wish them well.

Agree this may be a look at what will be another nerf fest. I stopped before and can do it again. Last league was great.
