Will 3.22 be the last league in POE1?

Saying "Path of Exile 4.0 is just a regular ho-hum patch that does nothing interesting or worthwhile" is a little bit different than saying "path of Exile 2 introduces an entire new campaign arc and fundamentally alters and updates most of the game's core systems to exciting new standards unhindered by a decade of old development baggage."

Note that in your linked keynote speech, Chris notes that the desire was to build a sequel to Path of Exile including the freedom to monkey with core mechanical systems in the way a True Sequel would allow, but he didn't want to abandon the years of add-on content and MTX spending players had put in and split the playerbase between two separate games that didn't interact with each other. Path of Exile 3.0 is essentially being "patched" into its own sequel, with the development effort of an entire second game being poured into the '4.0' update everybody keeps dismissing as a ho-hum nothingburger of a patch that doesn't do anything worthwhile.

Some folks are getting real tired of that, even as they despair of ever actually getting to play PoE2.

Did the game ended up with a sequel? No, the current base game gets patched and patch 4.0 introduces many changes just like all the larger patches did in the past.

It's not any different to any other game that ends up with a larger patch which took a couple of years of development.

Does it make any difference to the patch PoE 2 or patch 4.0? not really content is going to be the same regardless of the name. Some follow the marketing name and some simply follow the accurate patch version. Not sure why people get so heavily triggered about something that simple

People "get triggered" because of exactly what I said - people who insist on calling the update 4.0 also generally insist that the update is absolutely pointless and meaningless, it will accomplish nothing, and anyone who's excited about the PoE2 release is just an idiot with no sense.

Because apparently an entirely new campaign arc and a heavy redux of the skillgem system, on top of new weapon classes, Ascendancies, and entire new skill archetypes, on top of whatever else they've developed and simply not told us about, has less impact on Path of Exile's trajectory as an ARPG than fuckin' Torment League did, and Tormented Spirits are the lamest, saddest, most poorly aged mechanic in Path of Exile. The fact that Prophecy got the axe before Torment did still makes me sad. And yet people are out there insisting 4.0 is less worthy of attention or focus than Torment League content.

It makes some folks upset.

Not everyone talks the patch bad tho even if they name it 4.0. But I guess most of us are equally excited for the changes regardless of the name. The only lack of excitement is on those who don't even play the game or care much at all, but still hang around here for whatever reasons.

No one outside the GGG team has concrete evidence of what will or not be the future of PoE. Being overly dramatic or overly dismissive are both idiotic stances to take at this point.
