Is the game worth it if you going to play few Characters, and mostly STD?

Hey. I'm thinking of starting, but i prefer to play with 2-3 characters and focus on them, not starting all over every few months or so.
So i will play mostly STD.
Is the game worth it that way, will i enjoy it fully or ?

I think it's worth it.

PoE these days is close to a sandbox game, where it's up to each player to find his own fun. If Standard is the best suit for you, go for it. But just remember; standard isn't the most popular game mode, and it might be barren from time to time, especially from a trading perspective.

My advise would be to start out in a league and just keep playing your character(s) when they get transferred to standard.

And, find yourself a guild.

+1, and +9k to the last line.
Guildies can be very very helpful.

I spend a LOT of time in Standard, especially if the current league doesn't excite me. Besides, that's where all my toys are, with which to create all kinda fun builds. =^[.]^=

Yeah it's exactly what i'm going to do.
I will probably play leagues in the future as well, when i want to try something new, but i usually play 2-3 hours per day, sometimes more, sometimes less in the weekends, so i don't have all the time in the world to keep starting from scratch.
Thanks for the reply.

Since the game costs you nothing, it's definitely worth it.
If you find it's not your thing, move on, no money lost.

The answer to this question is difficult and depends on you. Although Standard is permanent, it is not immune to the 3-month cycles. Your builds will need to be revisited with every buff/nerf and passive skill tree change. You are only guaranteed 3 months of stability and each patch may change that stability dramatically (or not at all).

Your atlas will be reset with every new release cycle which can be fixed by running a high-level map from a prior league but is still a hindrance especially in a HC league where running a corrupted T16 map presents added risk that not everyone wants to do over and over again.

If you can handle that, then Standard is fine. But you have to be able to handle that because there is no avoiding it.

I would bring up the Exalted Orb/Divine Orb debacle and how dramatic an impact that had on people in Standard, but I have my doubts they will do something like that again.
Thanks for all the fish!

Standard also comes with the problem of pretty lousy and slow trading.
It's easier to gear up a character on the current league and it's also easier to make currency there.

If you don't have high expectations in terms of gear and wealth you can easily play standard, or SSF if you want to skip pretty terrible the trading at all.
But if you aim for top gear and a lot of wealth you might be better of by playing the next league. Get a well geared character there and work on a new character during the next league or in standard with the currency you've collected during the league time.
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

Play league because the economy in standard works under the assumption you've been playing for 10 years and have amassed enormous wealth. If you're just starting out, it will be almost to standard though you won't have access to legacy items.

Some great advice in this thread.

I play some leagues, though mostly Standard. League content can be awesome and it would be a shame for you to miss out on it when choosing standard would probably be a net negative experience when compared to league.
I'm struggling to come up with new goals to keep me playing this game.
