The Searing Exarch balls phase is horseshit

You're half right. The Exarch balls aren't horses**t, but leap slam absolutely is.

This is not a git gud post, I'm not attacking you, I'm not making fun of you, and I'm not speaking ironically here when I say any of this:

STOP USING LEAP SLAM.

IT IS GARBAGE.

This is counterintuitive for a lot of players who might mistakenly assume that the game were properly balanced. I'm sure you, quite reasonably, had a thought early on in your current build similar to "I'm a melee build, I've got all this attack speed, clearly this is the movement skill I want."

No, it isn't. The skill you want is Flame Dash, linked to Second Wind Support.

And someday, you might make a different melee build which uses daggers or claws, and you might see the Whirling Blades skill and think, "that's the one for me."

No, it isn't. The skill you want is still Flame Dash, linked to Second Wind Support.

And if by chance you decide you want to try playing an archer, you might read the tooltip on Blink Arrow and say, "So it's a travel skill that moves you instantly, allowing you to dodge through hazards such as the Exarch Bullet Hell? And it leaves a decoy behind to draw enemy aggro? That's pretty good, this is DEFINITELY the skill I wa-"

NO. The skill you want is Flame Dash, linked to Second Wind Support.

Agreed. Leap Slam and Whirling Blades are for going faster from your current pack to the next one. They are not for getting you out of danger.

Though I would argue Flame Dash isn't the only viable skill. I personally prefer Divergent Dash linked to Anomalous Second Wind. The thing I don't like about Flame Dash (other than the high Int requirement) is that only the first flame dash is instant. If you make a mistake and need to do a second dash straight away, it can get you killed. Whereas with my 3 shots of dash, I could expend all 3 if I want without that danger period. The phasing at the end of the dash is nice too (particularly if I'm dashing away from a strongbox).

Frostblink is also nice for certain builds. And Lightning Warp if you have sockets to burn.

i really resent that melee movement skills (except for flicker) all do not "teleport" to your target location.

i am a bland "dash" enjoyer. but that is a bad skill. back in sanctum i was made aware how bad it was whenever i had to run a gauntlet with laser beams. dashing thru the beams is considered a hit.

its BS.

sure, thematically flame dash and lightning warp/frost blink are "teleportation". but it really makes me feel salty for the melee options in comparison.

Why exactly do you count dash as a "melee option" and flame dash as none melee? This is a fantasy setting we are talking about. Stepping in so fast that it leaves afterimages (dash) or moving so fast that it scorches the ground (flame dash) both aren't exactly rare concepts used by melee fighers in such settings.

Just because of the gem color?

Personally i've switched to flame dash for all my builds when Sirus was introduced and never looked back.

Not like i consider this good game design but it's GGG we are talking about, they have nothing to do with that and this is among the problems that have a very clear and easy solution for everyone.

No need to git gud. Just bring a totem.
Actually OP want transcendence and Leap Slam (if enough attack speed) because every other movement skill more or less suck.
I was just in boss fight and all i can say that flame dash did not get me tru the balls without taking the damage.
We need a hover ability so we can ignore that BS.
90 fire res and ruby flask wtf
GGG decided years back that they hate Leap Slam I think.
To this day you can get stuck in terrain which has been a bug since beta.

I've done the ball phase countless times without getting touched moving.
Then you just get unlucky. That's the crappy part. Being reliant on RNG Maven.

did hundreds of exarch and never did the ball phase. I just port out when it starts, go back in and wait until its over, then kill. no need to do the ball phase

This is precisely the problem with it for me. People actually leaving the entire fight to avoid a mechanic is kinda counter intuitive for boss design... maybe just don't make him spam the damn thing over and over and instead give him more mechanics that aren't cheap tricks.. at least the eater of worlds is interesting and you can do something to speed up the mechanics.
haha you know what his first attack is after his ball spam ends? Another ball spam!
