Melee is dead but I want it to be even more dead...

Have you played any spell builds? Cold DOT or Fire DOT for example? Various other spells, traps, SRS? Ballista builds like Tox rain or EA Ballista?

The reason I ask is that relative to these skills Bonseshatter is merely a competitive skill choice that has comparable power, comparable scaling and comparable built in mechanical advantage. In fact I'd say Boneshatter should be used as the baseline minimum for all melee skills (because you're taking on so many disadvantages by choosing closer range skills like melee and most of them do not have bonshatters mechanical advantages of splash and big amounts of flat damage that makes weapons while leveling so much more flexible).

So you want to take one of the few (there's a couple others to be sure) Melee skills and make it significantly worse than all the competitive other skills for what?

So that Boneshatter is just as bad as the other melee skills? Making it so that melee mains have even less options that scale competitively and opportunity cost (return on investment) competitively to all the wide swaths of ballista and spell and even minion builds?

I have Fire DOT cold DOT and Ballista builds in Ruthless that got to yellow/red maps without support gems (except ballista support). I'm not saying you can't get to the same point with Bonseshatter, but it'll feel worse, About the only thing I found comparable to spells/ranged was a janky as hell rage vortex, warlords mark (to gen rage faster), Blade storm + Static strike build and that one only played half decent because I dropped the rage gem and overcharge support linked to static strike gave some shock. In comparison no link DOT spells play like normal POE minus movement skills all the way to red maps with no support gems.

So no offense but it has been a huge problem with the games melee over the years that melee players always seek to drag the better melee skills back down into the shit heap: Negative attack speed multiplier: Multistrike, Impale Cyclone, Bleed, Molten strike, Slams, Dual Wielding, off hand Stat sticks, etc. etc. etc. and etc.) all pulled back down into the pile brought down to the level of the shitty skills that sure "can do content if a streamer try hards them" but are simply not remotely worth using relative to better, safer, smoother and more easily scaled options.

In a perfect world Boneshatter would be nerfed a little and every other worse mechanically inferior melee skill given some sort of much easier scaling opportunity or design space. But it feels like GGG is simply unaware of the objective state of their skills (AKA being able to quickly reach red maps with zero support gems on many spells). So what hope does melee have? Be happy there are a couple good melee skills and hope they hire someone who really likes melee....

I know it sounds like hyperbole but there's a reason why we got Link skills (and Minions and Spells are eternally OP and never significantly nerfed out of the meta despite being quite obviously mathematically many times more powerful). Is because they have designers who actually enjoy those, Neon for example is a Aura bot support main... so we get link skills while melee grovels in the gutter for 3 years asking "please sir give us back multistrike... unnerf dual wield and sir: can you please level a templar for 5 minutes with Glacial Hammer so that you see that negative attack speed multiplier was a mistake?
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

The point of Simu is not dps, it's defense. You can do it with 1mill if you have enough defenses.

To get a lot of loot however, that's when you need to kill them fast. I can get 6 waves consistently with my Bladestorm, although admittedly i would get 7 waves with the same investment in a ranged build.

Without damage you still can get overwhelmed even with good defense, especially on bosses. People can do 30 lvl sims with all-in on dmg Frostblades Tricksters, and get quite a lot of rewards bars too, and some balanced/defense oriented builds can't do past 25 and don't get as much rewards...

I didn't said Boneshatter is OP globally, I meant in comparison with other melee skills. I'd prefer playing dead or weak archetype if there at least were a good choice of abilies, but for now Boneshatter overshadows almost every option. (somebody shared glacial hammer build, but it's just a worse Boneshatter too imo...)
As a Boneshatter enjoyer who played it to solo delve 4000 i gotta agree its the best damage melee skill with built in advantage of AoE which makes additional nearby ancestor hits not a necessary mod like it is on other strike skills.

The build in AoE and highest melee damage is what makes the skill viable in my eyes.
