My recap of PoE vs D4 and why even still PoE is unmatched

I am easily pleased, i like killing shit and nice graphics. DIV does both of these well. PoE does one well, until 4.0

Melee in DIV feels better than PoE.

If the core experience of a game is enjoyable i like it, i don't play games like a streamer and demand content so i have something to do for my audience to watch, i'm my audience. Being a casual I can enjoy DIV i have nothing to prove.

This guy nailed it!

I played POE from Beta, I remember a day when POE players would be writing the junk about Diablo sucks and POE will one day be better that I now see in this forum. Sad but thats the nature of fandom.

I popped into this forum after not having played POE in a while due to how ridiculously complex the builds have gotten and how linear it is. I play games to have fun and for a decade POE was the BEST and most fun game I played but it got so complex the joy left and POE became a HUGE grind, linear and tedious!

I bought D4 and I have thoroughly enjoyed it!
Story is very good, graphics are awesome, open world is amazing...I can go any direction and fight anywhere/anyone I want, I can ACTUALLY play a melee build and enjoy it! Characters are diverse and each has multiple ways to be played. I'm sure it will only get better as its in its infancy.

For those that were here for Poe beta, please remember how short the game actually was in the early days compared to now. D4 is a fun game and accessible to pro and casual players alike, something I think Poe is missing.

POE is far from linear. Its just that you got to follow guides if you dont know what you are doing. POE is a great game for people who like complex games.

D4 is not a great game for pro gamers. It isnt fun until you are level 98 or so for pro gamers because it is too easy until then, the only good fight in the game is Uber Lilith.
i find it amazing that best compliments D4 gets is that it have amazing graphics/music/voice. its super funny and sad at the same time to know that too keep players entertained all you need is shiny graphics and sound.

I mean you don't need to be a "pro gamer" in order to enjoy some more complexity and the ability to enjoy more in depths character customization of more "complex" games.

But lets be honest even Uber Lilith is not a big deal even for "Casuals", it's just a simple learning process of hit and trial until the fight is done. D4 players consider it as "hard" cause everything else in the game gets served on a golden plate to them. Hard to be "prepared" for Uber Lilith if the game never gives you any leaning curve or difficulty spikes at all.
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.
Good review only thing I would add is D4 itemization is complete garbage. Yeah get to chase the exact same loot, oh but it is differnt it has a higher item power number, right. And what is up with the 50 different damage triggers. Damage enemies distant, dmg enemies far, damage when stun, damage enemies when wounded etc... like who the hell is in charge over there. Anyone with a braincell. D2 had over 300 uniques when it launched. These fools come with a dozen. Really what have they been doing for the past ten years. Plus they still are having memory leaks which cause lag on PC side. Zero trading oh I know they say you can trade trash but who needs to trade trash?

I did enjoy the campaign but once I got to endgame I found it very very very boring. It is the same items hardly any different monsters, same dungeons only couple variant pure bullshit on 150 dungeons. Sorry but making a right turn a left doesn't make it a new dungeon.

Have zero faith this game will become great. It will flounder like D3. Have a small core group that will die on the sword for it but that is it. Blizzard doesn't have the talent to make it great. Just look at the question in the camp fire chat about why increasing the time to leave dungeon. He was a stumped and stuttering mess. Please, this is the lead man for the job. I am sure he is a great person maybe I don't know him but to me it looks like he is in over his head.

For me I don't see myself buying a Blizz title ever again. Surely not a Diablo one.

D4 is a fun game, for a while. It is a different kind of play style and friendly for casual / no-pro gamers. My problem with D4 is the same with D3, it just doesn't have the long term replayability for me. You can see the devs are doing what they always have at Blizzard. It is something I will go back to every once in a while for a change of pace, but it is more of an "arcade" version of an arpg.

I have been playing this game for 11+ years and unless they totally mess up POE 2, I will likely continue to play. I will take breaks and play Last Epoch, D4, and even something like Wolcen to keep things fresh, but nothing in D4 has made me rethink POE being my go to arpg.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I agree with you on this, I play all those arpg games as well, I actually had a good time with Wolcen for a bit :)

The beautiful thing is there are many games that vary in approach. I played Poe since beta. I remember when the Kitava fight was the be all end all for the game! I remember when POE was actually a group event and man was that a BLAST!!
Running the LEDGE in party to get enough levels to move forward in the game. Those were some of my favorite memories in gaming.

I will play Poe 2 and I hope it is not entirely geared toward the top10%/streamer crowd who have calculators and endless time, I do not have endless time to play games.

Yes. This IS the beautiful thing. People should remember that, and let every ARPG have their own stylistic approaches, and not do everything they can to make one ARPG more like all others. It's OK for some of them to be different.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

You don´t need to have endless time, and as someone who played since beta you should actually know that.

How short ? From 2013 to 2023 they made a great game with incredible end game, mechanics, mini-games, awesome content added every 3 months, amazing skilltree... and soon we will have PoE 2 ! PoE has been developped in 2006, so it has taken 17 years to developpers to make 2 great games.

...

Blizzard started to develop D3 in 2002, what did they do in 21 years ?! 2 games with poor to almost no end game, low to empty content, poor mechanics/items variety/builds, bonsai skill tree 😅 D4 is not a different game from D3 and not a new game, it's a sequel, so they have no excuse, it's not the begining but a 21 years old story !

If you follow the way : use path of building, loot filter, pricer and guides on youtube, even you are beginer you can do it, for everything you need a time to learn and that's the problem of Diablo, you know everything in just few days then you have nothing else to do in the game, you are bored while in Poe you have many things to do and to learn, you cannot be bored so fast.

Poe brought 10 years of fun for free while for Diablo you have to pay a heavy price for being disapointed and bored in just few days 😑
