Dual Class System
|
The first option won't happen, because you could create builds that are very efficient on PvE, level them up and then as a secondary build you could just create a build which is extremly hard to level up untill level 40 and then a beast that destroys everything. Thay would create balancing problems.
The second option is more reasonable, but it will not happen, because the more characters you have the more you have to grind and also they earn more money via microtransaction system if you have more characters. "The harder the game, the better."

Buy one character, get 5 free?
I was thinking that, at first, the idea was to have a sort of hybrid, which is what 'dual classing' tends to result in: you're weaker at swords than a pure sword, but you can use swords and bows well. Now that it's fleshed out, it really is just a way to make characters without having to ..well, play them. At that point, why not just allow a person to start at L100 and switch nodes as they wish? This isn't making flexibility. This isn't even a "I'm sick of questing" idea. This is "I don't want to finish the game 5 times faster." "But you need to earn the first character." We already eliminated 'earning' 4 characters? We also made the game a mountain times easier. Make a double totem /summon witch to level super easily. Then vs Chaos, switch to a CI build. Have an elemental build of each type and just TP and switch at will. Got a leech build and your map is 'no leeching'? Go full hp tank. Jeesh, if you REALLY want to be able to switch, then just build a passive tree that's more 'generic'. If you want fire and ice, get 'elemental damage' nodes or just have your 'damage boosters' in your equipment instead (one of the big reasons people go heavy life/ES in passive is because your equipment can do all the damage boosting, which lets you switch it out at will. The summoner /lightning witch example is even more silly since you can get all of the minion nodes and STILL have nodes for other things, like Lightning. OR you can just NOT get EVERY SINGLE BLASTED MINION NODE since you don't need every one to make a good minion witch and use the rest to get whatever you want. My proposal is this: Let's have races that start you off at a certain level or offer crazy exp, so that people who want to play with other character types can test them out there. Let's NOT offer ways to completely bypass the entire leveling system. There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.
This game really isn't for people like that. This game is for people who'll do the same area over and again because they know..., a Mirror can drop anywhere, anytime. - CharanJaydemyr |

@dak
i think TC wants a character to be put into the center. this way he can have a jack of trades character that is viable and powerful, without needing a complex and over powered system to back it up. |

That's NOT what he's asking for given the example given. He doesn't want to be able to just spread a line down Duelist's melee and a line up Witch's minions. he wants to be able to build a specific minion witch, then BOOM instantly switch to physical melee Duelist with a fully new tree.
As far as what you suggest, that sounds 'better' but then it makes all of the characters obsolete as 'starting from the center' won't create a Jack, but it WILL create a VERY easy way to make a large number of builds much cheaper (as you don't have to go around the world to get at another class' nodes). I wouldn't mind a discussion on the idea of just doing that and turning the characters into basically 'skins' though I'll need some good explanations on how that won't make the game more dull in the end. I mean, if you want to have half your build be on one side and half on the other, just take the 'class' in the middle. Or don't: there's that common Ranger build that nabs nearly half of the Marauder nodes without missing a beat. There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.
