RESET THE LEAGUE !!
|
You can't play just one game 365 a days a year. It just doesn't work like that.
It's fine that people slowly trickle off after a month or two, it's good for their own mental health & prevents burnout. And anyone who wants a fresh start can either delete their characters & stash to do so, or start again in ssf, hc trade or private league. There will also prolly be a gauntlet coming up soon, so play that. It's also at this point of time where the average player has enough currency to try out cool & interesting builds that are not possible at league start. So you will be taking that away from them. I remember I got my mb about a month into last league and tried out a whole bunch of builds with it in the 2nd month. |

" I mean, with the data we are given, this is simply not true. After 1 month, 2 months only 30% of players stop playing on average. There are bad leagues that have a much steeper rolloff, but its fair to say that the proportion you describe is reversed: 70% of players are STILL PLAYING after 45 days, and its only 30% that leave. Data taken from steamcharts, our only real source of concurrent player numbers. The REAL rolloff of players comes usually the last month of a league, or less. And that won't change even if you were to reset the league then, people are not going to come BACK to play the league just because its reset, they are already done playing it. " 1. Are you able to show us data/sources proving that? 2. What about ppl that play SSF in Trade League because they still want to be able to interact with their friends? Sometimes I help my friends out and 6 link and or colour their sockets because they can't invest that much time but for myself im SSFing. No way that Trade League SSF Chars get into official League SSF I fear. (edit: or more like its unlikely thaz they get migrates into SSF League, since it maybe requires a technical solution that may not exist now) 3. How do you know that the people would come back after a reset? Last edited by xxroachxxx#2538 on May 23, 2023, 8:08:12 AM

people wouldnt come back for a reset. people start new leagues because of the new content, after a reset things wouldnt be new and shiny anymore. unless the league mechanic was super good, and we havent had one like that for years BTW, people would just play standard where they already have all their toys to play with

i actually dont mind a league reset IF its a separate "resetter league".
for example crucible R1, crucible R2, crucible R3. but to be perfectly honest i dont see the value of it to the community even if theres a separate league implemented. in fact i would PREFER LONGER leagues where i can accrue more wealth. [Removed by Support]

Its a bad idea.
1. Fresh people need their 2-4 months to finish Challenges and Builds, you would totally screw over everyone who does not end up with 200+ div after 3 weeks, and this is actually the big majority of active players. 2. Those that play professionally would'nt really play more as there is no new content added. 3. You forget not all of us can game 24/7, we gotta work Dude? I can take a few days of vacation every 3 to 4 months during a league start. If you restart it after 45 days I would'nt be able to participate anyway. 4. It flattens the excitement for a new league. Those cycles as they are right now excite a huge amount of the playerbase. Patch nodes, reading up the new shit, the economy race... Thats a dopamine hit by itself, if you give people more of that it makes each Individual start already weaker. |

" I'm not sure what data you're looking at, but since 3.15 Expedition, each league has lost between 50% and 60% of players within the first 14 days. This current league as at yesterday has lost 82% of players from launch day. You can do the math yourself as launch day on steam was 211,637 and yesterday was 38,073. Day 45 was 45,245 or 78.6% player loss. 3.15 was a real turning point for the game and player retention, as in it declined at a far more rapid rate than previously. It's a pretty simple logical conclusion to draw that when GGG made the game more complex and more hardcore, the retention dropped. Basically, when the game is more accessible, casuals are more inclined to either pick it up mid league, or continue to play for longer. Resetting a league will likely do nothing for player volumes. If there's nothing new then there's nothing to entice the hardcore rush player to start again, and there's certainly nothing to entice the casual player who already hit the wall earlier and there's nothing new for them to be interested in either. Realistically, nothing is going to change. GGG know that their hardcore players are what they need to pay the bills. Casuals are not worth the investment as they cost more (server costs) than they realistically return (voluntary sales). For myself, I'm definitely a casual player and back in the early days of PoE I would play an entire league, creating multiple characters as I got to try out many different skills and items. Recent years though I've played one or two characters a league because the diversity that used to be there for me has long since evaporated, or rather, is no longer accessible for someone like me. This league I haven't played at all. No, it's not because I'm burnt out, it's just that today's PoE is not the game that I originally loved at the start. Restarting leagues is not going to suddenly overcome all the issues that are causing players to abandon a league so quickly these days. |

um no, i don't like league starts because this game is becoming harder and harder with builds requiring increasingly large amounts of grind to make them clear maps smoothly

" You do realize that "peak" numbers are meaningless...and the averages are what truly matter when you are talking about data over time? Peaks and maximums are the smallest possible snapshot of data, and the least valuable when talking about league play. They might exist only for a minute in the span of an entire league. They are essentially data outliers. Steamcharts even point this out FOR you by not including the peak/maximums in the percentages they show...ever wondered why there weren't %s on the right side of the table lol. They release sub league race exactly for that... and even then the number of people playing is low.
People comeback to the next league for new content but they need some times to play other games. What you ask for is to burn people from playing this game enough so they quit for good. Making leagues shorter would also make me quit even faster the league because as the league is closer to the end I value less my time played because I will eventually lose all my wealth I gathered.
