Ruthless Map Sustain

Hello Guys

TO be short:

Ruhtless is a very good mod. I like the new play style. But i will quit it, just because of one thing:

The drop chance for maps is too low. With all the map tier mods in the atlas tree, it doesnt make fun, because the map drop chance is still too low.

Can you answer me, why this anyoing thing is destroying the whole mod? Why not give at least one guaranteed map drop with the same tier to stay in the same tier?

Please think about it.

Thx

You're not wrong. Only one week into the league, I found myself literally farming labs for maps as I didn't have a single one left in my stash (even though I'd focused on only them for my atlas). Played 2nd week just to muck around with some whacky build ideas, but yeah, the map sustain completely killed it for me too. might still be playing otherwise...

...(ok, to be fair, AN mobs still being around probably would've worn me down by now, but still, I certainly would've lasted longer than a week anyway)
The extreme lack of maps is what made me quit playing Ruthless earlier. Sure, all the one-shots didn't help either, but getting put back to T2 and T3 maps was brutal. It happened time and time again, and every single node in my Atlas was map sustain, except 3 nodes for Delve early in the tree. Felt utterly pointless to try to keep playing the game when elementary content was blocked out.

I enjoyed the challenge of much less loot (and less inventory tetris), but when basic content is blocked out and you need to grind like a mo-fo just to get white maps... Yeah, screw that stuff. They better fix that for next league. I saw even pros such as Kripparian saying that map sustain was very difficult. And he plays a lot more and a lot more efficient than just about anybody else out there.

Ruthless is meant to be a hard mode, I expect struggling to sustain maps would be one of the features in it. PoE is already a hard game as is, you should expect the absolute worst if you're going to play the masochism mode.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

Gotta disagree with you Pizza. If you choose masochism mode as you put it, you expect it to stay just that, super hard all the way through 'til you die a grizzly death. However ruthless as it stands atm, you can very quickly reach a point where you literally can't even choose to fight anything that could possibly kill you because you're just that overlevelled for the areas you have access to (when you're 80 something and having to go back to merciless labs, hoping for a random low level map drop so you can do any atlas content whatsoever, there's something very wrong...)

Dont know what lack of content has to do with difficulty. The one good thing they've done over the years is make map drops plentiful.

Agreed. the campaign was far more enjoyable in Ruthless, and mapping itself was OK: but what turned me away was repeating the dull grind of 2013-2014 where it was barely possible to reach the upper maps, still less sustain them.

This was made worse still in Ruthless because alchs were so scarce - I had to save all mine for new maps (to improve the Atlas tree), and still ran out, so yellow maps had to be run transmuted/altered at best, aiming for quantity.
Of course with a total of two vaal orbs by level 85 or so pushing any further into red maps would have been impossible... not that any dropped before I fell back to T5-T6 maps again.

Surviving in higher maps is a valid Ruthless end-game. Sustaining maps... should not be.

I understand this is a role playing game, but I don't think the best role to play should be shopkeeper. - AlteraxPoe

Yes, one of the best things they've ever done in fact, in normal mode. It sounds like GGG's always wanted map drops to be scarce, to force you to minmax the hell out of IIQ to make them drop just like how it used to be, otherwise they wouldn't have done it in ruthless.

This is PoE and GGG we're talking about. You must always, always assume the worst, even more so with a mode they told you was supposed to be hard.

The problem IMHO with making ruthless map sustain difficult is that without maps you can't play the game. One can't have fun. I loved Ruthless mode in general but haven't played it after one character because of the bad map sustain.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!
Dont play ruthless if you crying about map sustain, maps should be something special , this is not softcore, if you dont like how it is ruthless is just not for you.
