What unique would you make if you could win the "make your unique" challenge

i dont know, i have several of them. Maybe with low certainty this:
I just remember playing back then pure energy shield builds and them being viable, i miss them a little and got rather bored of always using determination/grace even over discipline. So maybe smth like this: -40% more energy shield (maybe even more because of the second mod). -intelligence does not provide ES bonus (because screw stat stackers) -armour and evasion is capped by max ES. (maybe even more severe cap) -5% of energy shield is added as unbreakable ward (or just "minus flat damage taken equal to that 5%"). -lower than 10% hits (specifically to energy shield excluding ward) does not interrupt recharge. not sure about base item. edit: maybe also add mod to also kill guardian's added energy shield from reservation, all those non traditional es gains is just.. they overshadow traditional ES gearing and i think they had enough of the spotlight. " There is an item that does something like that. I tried to find it real quick but couldn't but at least it changes frenzy into power charges or something. Can't exactly recall. Maybe it's just a mod somewhere. |

This unique is based on Charan’s oh so lovely Oni Goroshi sword but updated to reflect both POE2 and the game changes since OG was created. It rewards dedication to using one weapon over time and mastering its fighting style.
Unique sword or Axe This weapon is designed to be used through many levels and into the end game. The more one uses this weapon, the better one gets at using it well and effectively. Farming Act 1 to get the weapon The weapon would drop only in Act 1 only after some high number of monsters have been killed in that Act without going to Act 2. It would drop after a significant boss fight. It could drop as a 1H or 2H sword or Axe with the result tied to the weapon used to kill the boss that drops the weapon. Since we don’t know how the new skill/support gems system will work, that will have to taken into consideration. Base stats start low and improve slowly as the character levels • Physical damage : x to x • Attacks per second: • Weapon range: The weapon starts with only the 3 mods below whose stats improve as rare and unique monsters are killed by the weapon Mods: • Increased physical damage x to x • % increased Attack speed to some max • + xxx to accuracy to some max Further mods can be added at particular game events or character level or major boss kills. A divine would open up a 7th slot. These mods improve as rare and unique monsters are killed. Essentially, these are like a predetermined weapon tree that one makes progress on through game events rather than crucible fights. • +% movespeed to +35% • +% to life to +20% • % chance to cause ailment X (player chooses ailment) • % of physical damage converted to elemental/chaos damage (player chooses) • Skill Gem supported by level X support gem • Add Vaal version of skill How fast the weapon progresses would have to be determined by GGG based on average rare and unique monster counts in the various Acts and end game and at what point the weapon tops out in both improvements and in the game. Changing the skill being used erases the modified improvement changes from killing monsters, but not those from leveling. The “further mods” are not erased when the skill is changed, just reset to base stats. Changing the character using the weapon would erase the killed monsters modifications and rest the base stats to the level of the new character. Trading the weapon would have some effect TBD "Gratitude is wine for the soul. Go on. Get drunk." Rumi

This is such a fun thread. It reminds me of when I was a kid and we'd ask each other 'what would you do if you had a million dollars?!' and of course there was stuff like 'fly to the moon in my own rocket!' and 'buy a paradise island forever' and then you grow up and discover just how much more both of those actually cost. Still a lot of money, but not 'make all yours dreams come true' level. Unless your dream is to own a house in suburban Australia. Then you might be okay. Maybe. People love to mock so-called self-made moguls who started with 'a mere million dollars' and turned that into hundreds of millions but eh, think about how many lottery winners piss it all away. And technically, taking a million and turning it into hundreds of millions is precisely what Mr. Wilson did.
Where was I? Oh yeah, the reality of designing unique items for PoE. O I know things, Exiles. Dark and terrible things. I have seen proposals die like the hope in a child's eye when they're told Santa isn't real. Some pretty funny submissions, dismissed as 'unnecessarily negative' back before GGG developed a taste for deploying their own brand of negative experience (as if the experience penalty wasn't that all along). Some truly ignorant ones asking for the moon and stars. And I've seen perfectly good concepts get mulched by the machine until barely a pale shadow of the creator's intent made it into production. Designing a unique is a very...collaborative process. By which I mean, of course, a whole heap of compromising. Bereft of realistic constraints, I'd design a Map. Least likely to be nerfed (directly or otherwise), most room for creative expression, most accessible by the broadest range of players (otoh who doesn't want to wield a sword that says mean things with a sexy voice, takes up both hands, and sets you on fire for doing well? I mean, come on, I can't be the only one to fantasise about such things), and all in all a unique that can give people their own, well, unique experience of it. Maps are what make PoE unique. Designing anything else is, imo, a waste of time. It's either vanity (mostly vanity, as I so often prove) or a genuine attempt at improving a game that has no idea what it wants to be from one build to the next. Even the more memorable user designs like Bringer of Rain and Skyforth, those that dwelt as meta for a while, are eventually left behind. Probably the most influential user design in the history of the game is Cloak of Defiance and not for any reason related to the game -- its designer so impressed GGG they hired him to work on/improve existing and new uniques. Most others, the result of a generous supporter and very little grasp of the actual workings of the game (again, I doubt anyone at GGG has such a grasp at this point never mind supporters) are relegated to 'vendor trash' by the very same people who scoff at the idea of putting that much money into the game anyway. My Australian vocabulary is tumescent with endearing terms for people like that, but let's not and say I didn't. So yeah, a Map. I dunno what type. Something not relying on sound or music (all love to my partner Acton, but she truly cast pearls before swine with that one when the streamers failed to realise IT HAD CUSTOM MUSIC). Something rewarding but not straightforward. I dunno. I've been playing a lot of Control so maybe something paying homage to the Oldest House. Were I more up on PoE lore I suspect there'd be room for some nice Atlas-adjacent design in there somewhere. And I feel the ever-shifting nature of the Oldest House is a nice visual metaphor for the ever-shifting nature of PoE. Yeah. That's what I'd do.
Spoiler
I did hand a design slot to a GGG staffer for all his help with my swords. I never did find out if he ever used it. Hm. Well did you, Mr. Codewarrior?

" Well, many streamers might not have noticed, but I still love to hear that track when I play Acton's Nightmare. Yes, maps seem to be the best bang for the buck. Or an item that isn't necessarily useful but has one of those "Sells for x currency at vendors" mods. Bird lover of Wraeclast

A good spellslinger enabling unique:
T1 rarity gloves (Int base): - generic ES % increase - Lightning resistance (+30-40) - Socketed spell gems are supported by level (15-25) spellslinger - Gems supported by spellslinger in this item has no reservation - Spell skills supported by spellslinger deals (5)% more damage per spell supported by spellslinger (global mod) Please make it happen, I really liked Spellslinger gamestyle, but dropping so many auras takes to much away. With this in theory you could put several spells into spellslinger set-up, for a hefty % more increase for spellslinger spells (2-3 in gloves and 4-5 in body - you would use 6-8 spellslinger 1-2linked spells for a 30-40% more dmg for each), and it would be very hectic visually. Just add every spell in the book and enjoy :D |
