Seems like a miss to me if the only other way to trigger them is through Spellslinger or Cast on Crit/Cast when damage taken. I even tried the new Prismatic Burst gem and couldn't get it to work. Could have been a really fun dynamic if they opened it up a bit. Instead they killed Saboteurs...?
I mean, it wasn't a bad idea to add something other than traps and mines to saboteur, but like you, I have no clue why they decided to butcher saboteur to do that. Most of the sabo builds are completely fucked right now, tremor rod is completely useless and not usable in any build if you're sabo, you can no longer use any "when a trap is triggered" mod on anywhere (tinkerskin and charge generation etc), non-aoe trap sabo builds (lightning trap etc) are extremely weak compared to their pre-crucible state.

Funnily enough, many of the other classes became better than saboteur for specific trap/mine builds and it's ridiculous how GGG couldn't have foreseen that. Before the league start, I predicted that sabo will only be used for hexblast mine builds and poe.ninja proved me correct. 70% of the saboteur players in crucible are playing hexblast mines. WHO COULD HAVE KNOWN???

They could easily solve the issue by connecting explosives expert to pyromaniac, so that we don't have to take a useless ascendancy for pyromaniac, but yeah... The vision.

yesterday was 68% hexblast mines for sabo, now it's 73%. it'll be even more soon

- replace perfect crime, a very good trap mastery, with a bland one that pretty much no one uses right now
- provide no compensation for trap users
- nerf it further by forcing players to take chain reaction to be able to play traps, rendering all "when a trap is triggered" mods useless, again, no compensation
- rework chain reaction to make non-aoe traps useless, no compensation for non-aoe traps
- do the same thing for mines, forcing them to take the stupid aura thing, rendering tremor rod irrelevant and forcing everyone to use high-impact mines, no compensation
- add a new ascendancy that simply reads 30% cdr, the most boring ascendancy ever added, which is again useless for most builds
- rework bomb specialist to introduce an ascendancy which is literally worse than a fucking pantheon. anyone in this forum could come up with something better and more original

why would anyone even play sabo unless you want to play hexblast mines? new sabo ascendancies barely provide any damage boost, so trickster shits on sabo in every aspect, as long as you have a forbidden jewel pair for pyromaniac. elementalist was already far stronger than saboteur for traps before this league. everything sabo could do, elementalist could do better and all she needs is a slavedrivers hand. there are probably other classes that make better trappers too. yet you decided so nerf sabo. idk.
