If there was any question if Ruthless really is just a side project, that's been answered

Optional game mode bad, D4 gud

I know this was supposed to be a funny jab, but I dont think you realize how very true that it might end up being.

Actually, yes.

Like, I've been pretty active in PoE and this is the least excited I've been for a league in a really long time. No new content, no new bosses, almost no balance changes, and the league focus is weapon crafting... :(

I really hope the league challenge rewards are exceptional...

Yeah, it really sucks that Crucible is only being released to Ruthless. Oh, wait.

It having a separate set of challenges is an odd choice, but that doesn't somehow make it the core game. That's a bad faith argument. The core game has 40 challenges like it has for a long time, with a league mechanic and gameplay that will attract a vast majority of the player base.

I'm personally excited about it because now when I finish the core game, I can go mess around in Ruthless and see if I can't knock out a few challenges there.

And what about individually incentivizing Ruthless? Or delaying changes to core elements of the game due to Ruthless? Or how about taking into account the political ramifications with Ruthless internally before doing "xyz" to the game.

None of that should be happening if it's just a pet side project.

The messaging on Ruthless is really bad, and getting worse imo.

There is a whole lot of assumptions in your accusations and nothing really to back any of them up; so not really worth responding to because it's just baseless with the exception of creating incentive to play Ruthless.

I don't know how that somehow makes it the core game. It makes it a part of the game, and people can opt to play it if they like. The core game is clearly the part of the game that almost everyone is going to play -- which is not Ruthless.
Thanks for all the fish!
I don't necessarily care about the challenges, the even(s) and stuff like that - from an isolated view. But the overall ramifications of going down this slippery slope? It sends out shivering vibes.

There is just a lot of assumptions that it will somehow become the core game that is mostly just baseless fear mongering. They will never get the uptake of Ruthless to support the game's development if it was the core game and I guarantee they know that. Even if they wanted it to be the case, it will never happen. Or alternatively, it will be one of the last decisions they make (yes, that's a doom and gloom statement from me).

If Hardcore got a separate set of challenges like it used to, would we be making the same arguments? It didn't happen then (it used to be that way), and it won't happen now.

Slippery Slope arguments are also a logical fallacy; they just happen to be effective because of the fear it stirs up in populations.
Thanks for all the fish!

This league is part of the set up for POE 2 which will launch in Q4. I expect that POE 2 will have a more Ruthless feel to all the Acts.

Everything I just said came verbatim out of CW's mouth live during the livestream, I don't know what you were watching.

I think they don't want the race to be over in a day, so they moved it to Ruthless so it can last 2+ days.

Good thing Ruthless is better than the base game then.

True.

It is.

But not by enough.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
