Why is Dual-Wielding still part of this game?

I love to finally see another person other than myself bring up dual wielding, but

How can you be so confidently wrong? None of those things have anything to do with dual wielding being unplayable, dual wield died all the way back in 3.11 when they removed inherent bonus and buffed damage values of 2 handed weapons.

Real question is, how does a developer of supposedly the ARPG neglect a whole melee archetype for over 2 years? It's insane to me that they even nerfed dual wield to begin with, not only is it so much weaker than 2 handed weapons, but I am also required to craft 2 weapons instead of once, and with current state of crafting being the literal worst for phys weapons, that's just not viable. I already have to waste so much resources and time to make a single good 2h weapon, and I'm now supposed to instead craft 2 1 handed weapons, to have a fraction of a power I would have with an average 2h weapon?

Not just that, check the passive tree, there's barely any 1 handed & dual wield passives while 2 handed passives are all over the tree, and the dual wield mastery is so incredibly useless, while the 2h mastery has multiple strong passives.

They first reworked dual wield mechanics and removed stat sticks, okay that sucks but at least I can now dual wield 2 phys weapons and still play, then they for no reason nuke DW out of the game, and it's been unplayable since 3.11, check the wiki when 3.11 was, it's absolutely disgraceful for a developer to completely neglect a whole archetype for this long, hell I don't think ggg even remembers dual wield exists.
HC balance should be separate from SC I don't care which outdated 1993 game dev philosophy this goes against. youtube/twitch.tv/DESPAIR268

I kept playing Paradoxica/Saviour builds after the removal of stat-sticks, so dual-wielding didn't die for me until the mana & defense changes. None of that's the point of this conversation anyway. But I agree with everything you've said about GGG nuking dual-wield.

Now now, they haven't ignored melee in the past 2 years at all, as much as I hate to admit it, we did get 2 pretty cool and strong skills, Boneshatter & Shield Crush, but in the mean time melee nerfed numerous times, not to mention how melee picks up collateral nerfs every single patch. They don't ignore melee at all, they just give it the bad type of attention, aka nerfs or completely useless ''buffs'' (see vaal cleave, +2 radius etc.)
