PoE needs a clear and interesting lore for the bosses of the game.

I've never really liked the fragment system either, I would probably have farmed 10,000,000 boss runs since alpha if it wasn't for this horrible system but because of fragments I just kill bosses once per league and quit
The "general" story is fine imo. It's done in "indirect exposition" style which appeals to all players - you can dive deep into it or forget about it and grind. I for one very much enjoy lore and world bulding of POE :D

However after Siege of the Atlas expansion the bosses lore and story as a whole have been neglected. The worst thing? ENORMOUS time skip between act 10 and Siege of the Atlas (skipped Elder, Shaper and Sirus storylines). Basically la_blue_girl quote:

Lore and story have been meh since Zana left IMO.

Couldn't have agreed more. For me the perfect solution would be to add all post act 10 storylines to the Atlas (one can dream). This way avarage lore enjoyers can do it chronologically and it doesn't hard-lock others :v
There is actually pretty substantial lore surrounding most of the bosses, and if I'm remembering correctly GGG released news articles highlighting the lore somewhat recently.

I believe there are entire stories around the bosses that you can read. The only reason that lore is not in the game anymore is because the endgame "story" is no longer about certain bosses. Elder, Shaper, Conquerors, Sirus, Maven are all "old" lore now that you need to seek out on your own.

Every time there is a big expansion, there is also corresponding lore baked into the gameplay. Actually reading all the things the npcs say gives you quite a bit of story.

Now the connections between all the bosses is just a bit....murky.
