if im not mistaken Smite just got its single target cut in half..
there is a tiny, not mentioned in the pre-league hype promo, change: 'this skill can hit once'
so it means you no longer can hit the ground AND via ancestral mirage for 200% damage it might be compensated with vaal smite somehow, but to be frank - my melee chars no longer have any spare action bar slots due to sea of small-yet-youd-be-stupid-not-to-use buffs melee's damage relies upon im not surprised they did that, however conveniently omitting it from previous communication reminds me of 'filler crafts' and 'massive historic bonus' Last bumped on Dec 8, 2022, 6:15:59 PM

According to the update the old text read, "If the melee strike hits a target, that enemy cannot also be hit by the area damage." -- not sure if that's what you mean? Interesting that they pulled "strikes 1 target" into a line item, makes me wonder if it's somehow buffable?

vaal smite adds +1 to that. it is like you have Tribal Fury (old)
and the line i mention says "each target can only be hit once by this skill" this is as straightforward as it gets - if you are not using Vaal Smite, your single target just got cut in HALF note: it was stupid this worked in the first place, but change this big deserves an implicit mention. yet they buried it deep and covered with fluff |

" Do you mean explicit mention? |

It reads like if a target is hit by the skill that's it.
Previously the AoE could layer on enemies if they were not hit by the main attack. Similarly to Wild Strike. Nerfed it's clear in exchange for Vaal clear? I dunno Smite was one of the good melee skills in the first place. They still didn't change the damn 50% conversion to 60% though. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

"If the melee strike hits a target, that enemy cannot also be hit by the area damage."
This was always part of the skill Otherwise you could hit an enemy twice with each hit So no.. it hasn't been nerfed |

" That's the old. This is the new: "Each target can only be hit once by this skill." "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

Definitely looks like a sneaky nerf.

I also don't see the difference between the old and new: to me it just reads as a clarification with less words.
The old version could NOT hit with the original strike plus the area damage. The new version can only hit once. They act exactly the same. In the new function, there are 2 phases: strike and aoe. If the strike hits, then the AoE cannot. If the strike misses, the AoE can hit. This is precisely how it operated before this change in wording. |

If I'm understanding the nuance correctly, the old version allowed your +strikes phantom to hit a guy who is also hit by the aoe from the main skill. Similar to how Lightning Strike allows you to strike the ground near the target to get both the projectile and the phantom to hit the same guy. This new wording would stop that.
Edit: Never mind, looks like GGG clarified that is quirk is NOT getting nerfed. Last edited by TemjinGold#1898 on Dec 7, 2022, 8:22:35 PM
