Ok I'm trying not to overreact or get too hyperbolic here. I didnt respond minutes after I saw this yesterday, as it was mindboggling to me. I wanted to think about it before I made a post. Like what is the benift or upside on the GGG end?
GGG on MF; It's a big secret, because of course it is. Here is all they say. " That's it. They just drop that and walk away. I mean really? A "long way" to where exactly? What the fuck amount is "small?" Is it "nearby" to "little?" What do you want players to do? Throw some rarity on and hope it's doing something? Something you have no idea what because of layered RNG, and hidden mechanics? (is conversion and currency still working with rarity?! NO ONE KNOWS) Players cannot even know if the entire MF mechanic is functioning as intended, or just an elaborate dev troll like fishing. Or even if a bug exists to report. It's not charming community discovery or mechanical ambiguity. Its creating doubt at a minimum, and regret or fomo at maximum while you gear up. This just flat out sucks from a player perspective. Even an arpg from 20 years ago has a table you could at least refer to get some clue as to what the hell was going on and plan accordingly. With diminishing returns, at least there was somewhat expected performance. The drops were still rng, but at least you knew you were not missing out through ignorance or being loot punished / fomo'd because its impossible to know what's going on functionally. https://www.reddit.com/r/slashdiablo/comments/mki4n/unique_magic_find_breakpoints/ Is that game breaking or daminging for players to know? What do we get in PoE? "Get you MF characters ready for totally random, unverifiable, rng-gated, unknown mob potential and drop rate multipliers!" Does rarity do "something"? Sure does! But its unquantifiable and unknowable. Ugh. Honestly what is this obsession with absolute player hostile design? It keeps happening, in fact increasingly so. It's exhausting. It's not the one thing, it's been pilling up cumulatively over the past few years. From character seeding, to players being "piles of money", to Streamer Priority Servers, to a massive change to historical bonuses. The unending quotable memes from blind slam crafting, to the vision, feeling the weight, all while being extensively tested. I guess Rarity is "quite impactful", and lets leave it at that. It's fine to not know exact values while things are working.
After loot goblin introduction and all mf shenanigans very hard to trust narrative "we will fine tune everything, a bit of mf will be beneficial, hundreds is not necessary". Last edited by MCSMvsME#0476 on Nov 18, 2022, 12:25:51 PM

" Why? What's the harm in saying you will notice increased rewards at 100% rarity. Even more at 200%, and then it tails off return wise as you approach 800% (or whatever the soft cap is) "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

" This is the problem. We don't know whether things are working. For extreme values like MF cullers have, sure they are working. For small values like 18% rarity, we don't know it is working or simply ignored / truncated like life-force drops in harvest. |

" Giving away exact formulas of the game is not something that turns out well most of the time It funnels even harder the meta into one direction as some players WILL take these tables and min-max it to the point we will have a definite best way to play. We currently just have general ideas and a bunch of meta builds, but if exact numbers are given, it becomes possible to get mathematically perfect awnswers. And since we all know most people are sheep who will follow the best possible way, its not good to give elements that gives that clear-cut direction In terms of MF, giving the exact diminushing return formula would give tools for players to reach exact theresholds: If you played D2 for an example of that, you might remember how individual variety died a great deal when the cast frames was figured out, when it became known exactly how much cast speed was needed to reach certain frames and the intervals where more cast speed does nothing it caused people to stop "improvising" with "stack as much as you can" and start calculating with hard numbers where was the ideal setup. If we get the formula for MF, we will know for sure where is that sweet spot where it gives the best return for the investment and everyone will start building around it, keeping things nebulous makes everyone improvise with "stack as much as you can", wich is more healthy for the game |

" Exactly, we should have relative breakpoints to alleviate the feelings of pressure or missing out. It doesnt need to be exact as rng still plays a role. If there is not a noticable difference below 75% for example then players can make a decison it's not that important. Beyond that we can decide if making some accommodations on gear make sense to get like 100%. Or beyond that, to focus an MF geared character to get greater results. Why are you making a fuss about this?
MF has been in game since inception. It is always wise to put some MF (40-50%) on your gear as it notably increases drops. But you are not forced to do it. Heart of Purity

" It was never multipled and converted like 3.19 introduced. And IIR didn't impact currency because of it. There were no 80 exalt mob pops since inception... Edit: and dont get hung up on 80. There wasnt 10-15 exalt drops either. " And you felt bad because people were getting more currency than you because of a mechanic in which the increased rarity got you more uniques that converted in divines/exalted/annuls. Well the multiplier will stay and the conversion will very likely disappear. So why all the fuss? As a matter of fact, if I were a designer I would give increased rarity the opportunity to give you rarer currency drops. " I mean sure you can have an opinion that loot shouldnt matter. Ruthless is more your style I imagine. No need to project so hard. Plenty of folks think the loot goblins and calling in a culler wasnt a great way to reward players...
