What was the reason for your exile?
|
As a kid I liked too much pursuing coins from other people's purses.
That got me into the Thieves Guild, where I learned how to better....acquire wealth. Eventually, I ran into more troubles than I could handle. When I stole from Ventor's bag of coins, one beggar ratted on me and he sent assassins to kill my siblings in Sarn. I had nowhere to go, no family left, not even the Thieves Guild. I needed a new place, where my face was as good as the next one. I chose the exile when I lied about a crime I didn't do, to cover for my beloved Hilda. The irony of it all got me to where I am today. |

Poured the worst pint some templars had ever seen apparently, got "asked" to leave Oriath.

A Simple job, I was told. Silence a big mouth. Get a big payout. And no one was going to be the wiser. Tidy. Except for one loose end. Me.
I would have kept my mouth shut. Professional integrity, it's called. Unfortunately not something my employers believed in. They raised a toast to a job well done. I drank and next thing I know I'm on this stinking crate bound for exile. It's not a complete loss, I suppose. The way I hear it, there'll be plenty of work for a man of my talents in Wraeclast. Back when the writing for this game was all the chef's kisses. I know I'm not the only one reading that intro and hearing Elliot Yule's inimitable style in your heads. I was glad for the short, sharp pre-cooked intros. This is not a good game for RP and fanfic fappery. I remember asking Edwin (the original writer of PoE) once how Shadows worked in Oriath because I was tempted to write this long background for mine -- I'd already assumed there were guilds and structure and hierarchies and all that. Instead, he envisioned it more like a Jedi/Sith situation where Shadows worked in pairs, master and apprentice. And although he was the official writer, that wasn't in the official writing so I left it there. I think I drafted a few chapters (each had a title punning on 'Shadow', so Play, Run, Box, Dance, etc) but realised then and there that eh, the whole thing was truly unnecessary. The Exile's story starts on that beach, and is written with every kill and every piece of loot. All we needed was a thin excuse to get there. Before long, it all just becomes a blur. Power in Wraeclast is a drug and PoE is one long, somehow instantaneous and yet never-ending meth bender. History has had a few truly good writers who only found their way to their story through drugs, but most are just as good if not better without them. ___ THAT SAID: I am still curious about Loate's official Path of Exile Labyrinth-themed gamebook, which only fairly high end supporters got their hands on (long after I stopped). His origin stories were all very high quality and well received: Templar - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1403133 Scion - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1414654 Marauder - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1419489 Duelist - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1457891 Shadow - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1488082 Ranger - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1563285 Witch - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1651034 I haven't read them in ages so I'm not outright recommending them as something I enjoyed but they were certainly good enough to get GGG's attention for official collaboration. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between. I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. Last edited by Foreverhappychan#4626 on Dec 1, 2022, 10:40:39 PM

I refused to do some paperwork regarding the humane killing of rats by poisoning their stomach so they can bleed to death across the timespan of two weeks.
The officials told me that i have to do it or else i get in trouble, they refused to sign my letter, i just wanted to make sure that if i get rid of them the way to do it is the official way. They sacked me for not doing their dirty work. They could have also sacked me for filling out the paperwork which proved that i did dirty work. Now nobody is going to do the dirtywork and the sewerrats have free reign over the city, its a buerocratic nightmare and the rats most likely ate all the papers by now. And that is why you now have new pets in your basement. +VLFBERHT+ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e80qhyovOnA&list=RD_euDhMDDRq4&index=10 Last edited by Lachdanan#4036 on Dec 2, 2022, 9:59:34 AM

I hugged the wrong woman. My apologies, My Queen.
"Bonus points if it is Scion/Witch because they have nice knees. Ranger has ugly knees and other characters are men so playing them would be homoerotic." - CAKE, 10/20/21

It isn't and is clear at the same time. The intro dialogue / text on the right side when you choose characters briefly explain on why Dominus exiles them.
You can read their dialogue and introduction here, to have a clue on why Dominus exlies them. https://pathofexile.fandom.com/wiki/Character_class Marauder ; A Karui that resisting Oriath enslavement, then going against those who enslave him. But one man can't defeat an army, his efforts were futile and in the end, he is exiled. Ranger ; A native of Wraeclast that lives in the wilderness, away from city and advanced civilization. She fought against the forces of Oriath, that deemed her way to be "uncivilized", labeling her as thief and poacher. She lost, then exiled. Witch ; Just like the name suggest, she is a Witch, capable in using and mastering thaumaturgy. The name of Witch itself have a direct correlation on how the term Witch was used in real life back in medieval / dark ages. People fear the unknown, they fear things that they don't understand, and they easily label someone that doing a remarkable yet unknown to them as something, like Witch. In the end, Oriath didn't like her thaumaturgy, the Witch thaumaturgy significantly different than The Templars, and people of Oriath fear them. So they tried to burn her, burn her home, and she retaliates by burning the children of those who responsible. Then she exiled. Duelist ; He is a gladiator, a master of the arena, a champion that hailed in Oriath colosseum. However one day, a noble insult him to the point that he can't take it anymore, his honor was stained by the noble, then he kill the noble. So he is exiled. Templar ; He is a solider of an Order that reside in Oriath, a devoted believer of God, a man with unwavering faith of God. But one day, Oriath decide to dispose him and his Templar brothers / Order , maybe they already fulfill their function as political tools or as an army, and keeping them any longer in Oriath will impose a threat to nobles, politicans, and high ranking Oriath officers. So the Order that he and his Templar brothers are in is disposed, with him being exlied. Shadow ; Well he is just simply a criminal, a hired sword, a mercenary, bounty hunter, you name it. One day he took a job with big pay, but the contractor doesn't want a loose end. So then he is exiled. Scion ; She is a daughter of nobles, and seems to be a high ranking one. She was treated like a dress-up doll. Her family wants her to do their bidding, suppressing and ignoring her opinion, her passions, her goals in life, her wants. One day she fed up with that and kill her husband, presumably a planned marriage between nobles. As for the reason as why am I exiled, I accidentally found Doryani's collection in Oriath library and fap to Queen Atziri picture right there at the moment. I was caught left-handed by the Templars. They did not want to make a martyr out of me,
and keeping me in a cell might have fomented the revolution further. So away I went... What is the value of my own life when it is taken from others so easily?
