Welcome to the Iron Hideout competition 10, a Lake of Kalandra league hideout community event. Build a hideout based on a chosen theme and compete for prizes and admiration of your peers! Hope everyone has a lot of fun and happy building!  The theme of this competition is OPPOSITES and we're looking forward to seeing some amazing submissions featuring this concept. Opposites mean opposing themes, ideas, backgrounds, environments...they can be diametrically different or conflicting in nature and they can be more subdued, covert, internal. Try not to limit yourselves by obvious solutions - try to dig deeper. SUBMISSIONS START | September 26th 20:00 CEST SUBMISSIONS END | October 23rd 20:00 CEST After the submission period has concluded we will announce the date for the showcase stream and results.  Before creating a submission please carefully read the rules, there have been changes made since the last competition. ✦ TWO SUBMISSION LIMIT | Contestants are allowed to submit a maximum of two hideouts and they should fit the theme of this competition as closely as possible. ✦ NO MTX | No MTX bases or decorations are allowed (including stashes, challenge hideout bases and trophies or decorations unlocked with MTX bases which have a limited number of placed objects). The jury consists of renowned hideout builders who have been heavily featured by GGG and have won or ranked in the Official Hideout or Iron Hideout competitions. They all cast their votes blindly, without knowing how others have voted. The votes are then tallied by the organizer and the winners announced. We do not use poll voting because it is easily manipulated/cheated and even when that's not the case such a system would ensure the contestant with the largest community behind them wins, which would be unfair and impossible to sort through. We feel that a jury of skilled and respected peers is a much better option.  Each week the collection of submissions for that week will be recorded by importing hideout files and uploaded in a showcase video. Because of this you do not have to make your own videos unless you wish to do so. The weekly compilations will be linked here. I tried to showcase the theme with stark contrast on the lower and middle parts that combines to a new mixed use on the highest elevation. Here is a list of the opposites used: Substance (Organic - Inorganic) Color (turquoise - orange) Lighting (bright/white - dark/black) Patterns (curves/circles/spirals - straight lines/crosses/rectangles) Entropy (chaotic - orderly) Unintentional (eater of worlds - searing exarch) With the amount of different opposition effects the two sides build a glaring contrast. The big wurm creature at the top has parts of both sides. Another big part were the use of stacked objects. I recently discovered the joy of stacking objects in a pattern by rotating the same object with "R" onto themselves and creating unique patterns. Especially for the organic side I used many of those discoveries. Luckily I managed to avoid flickering due to too many lights placed but be warned! Only one more light source and the flickering will start. Speaking of light sources, stacking light sources can have interesting effects which I also made use of in this hideout. Some problems I encountered while working on this hideout: -avoiding flickering on the red side with the summong circle ground -making nice transitions on the edges to pitch black blocking volumes -hiding the railings -coming up with two cool map device parts and their portal indicators -aligning the kitava horns to somewhat make the form of a wurm -the lower jaw of the wurm This was quite fun, a certified G4nzo classic! By the way, I stole the grid ground idea at the factory part from Keld as I said I would. No shame here. Might do a second entry! Hope this wall of text didn't crit... Thought process behind this design
Heaven vs Hell, Good vs Evil, Man vs Beast, Heroes vs Villains, Angels vs Demons, are all eternal clashes that in their core depict the struggle of applying order within chaos. In this hideout I tried to depict each side based on how the other sees them: Order as oppressive and self-righteous & Chaos as destructive and nightmarish. The entire work is based around the contrast of red and green. Within the order side, the tones of red and green are both compliments to the righteous gold that illuminates the statues. Within the chaos side, red and black have completely taken over, lurking and enraged. At the same time, within each side, a little bit of the other still exists.

I wanted to approach to the theme of the competition from the different direction. Therefore I've imagined an opposite sides of the vertical world and the first thing that came to my mind was a mountain. With its bright breathtaking peak and its dark mysterious grotto deep within its bowels.
In search for an inspiration Arreat summit was the one that stormed my mind immediately and when I found a perfect base for the project adding a room resembling Frozen River was a reasonable choice. Creating an opposite to the peek was a lot of fun when I had to switch from comfortable white and blue into dark brown colours and groomy atmosphere. I hope you will enjoy this work as well.
