Only Play Standard League?

Are there players who only play standard league?
Could a player 'infinitely' play standard league w/ the same character and just do endgame until PoE2 comes out?

This is something I've been wondering about.

Yes they exists in trade league and in SSF.

In theory yes.

However all balancing changes do affect standard as well and might brick builds.
So ideally you would level each ascendancy to whichever lvl you want, so you have them ready and you can switch to whatever tickles your fancy, after the balancing changes are rolled out and provided you do have the proper gear for that build.


So you will be forced to adapt every now and then but you can play endgame forever, if thats what you want.

It may also (hypothetically) be more popular with low frequency players, who wouldn't reach endgame within the timespan of a single league. Imagine someone who plays just a couple hours a week for instance.

For someone like me thats been playing standard for almost 10 years, the reason is quite simple. I have a job.

if you do decide to come to the dark side, make sure to diversify your asset's to avoid things like the ex/div swap. the nerf hammer is broad and pity-less.

someone on my friends list who is online pretty regularly since 2014 always in standard and always on the same lvl 100 necro. Sometimes I wonder what they think of me always on a different char jumping between sc/ssf sc/ssf hc every league. This is one of those 'friends' for a league or 2 then stop chatting/playing with but then don't remove them for whatever reason (sentimental value?)

Absolutely people regularly practice bossing/leveling or theory craft in standard because putting a build together on a fully leveled character is easier in standard than in league/can be done prior to league start.

Somethings to know

Changes do impact standard as well.

They retro-nerf items so you might - as I have - spend lots of currency on an item on for GGG to nerf it into a brick. These items are also choose completely randomly (examples Kaoms no Disfavor yes) why is anyone's guess considering the ludicrous crafted gear in standard. This happen to some in a HUGE way with the EX to Divine swap. Didnt affect me too bad as I had about the same number of each. I really think GGG should have allowed EX to divine NPC exchange before this went live to be fair to standard players.

Also inflation in standard is INSANE so dont expect people to respond unless you are purchasing divine items and even then trade is as RNG as loot is in POE.

I mostly play ssf std now I and tired of starting over.

That being said ggg loves to destroy builds so your build may or may not be playable after a new league cycle which is really infuriating
