Who is this elusive "Average player"?

Over the past few days GGG keeps repeating that the loot is fine. Ok. They have the numbers. But that is only true for the "Average Player".

Is the average player the player who quits before brutus? Since that is apparently the majority of people who try the game?
Is the average player the player who finishes the campaign and never cares about maps?
Is the average player the person who runs a few maps in the league and never hits red tier maps?
Is the average player the person who just "alch and go" the maps?
Is the average player someone who is invested in the game and found their niche league mechanic, and now want to run a specific mechanic only?
Is the average player someone who invests into maps with zana crafts+atlas skill tree?
Is the average player someone who tries to amp up maps as much as much as possible with scarabs sextants fragments high rolls on maps?

Well i know the average player is not someone who does all what the last one does and plays in a party. But right now to me it sounds that drops are better, but only for the people not too invested in the game. While anyone who gets invested or wants to push for specific content gets punished. Party play or not.

as you say, it's pretty clearly a straight up lie, since any reasonable analysis would show a substantial enough divergence in players that speaking of an 'average' makes little sense; especially as even the word average leaves huge differences between mean, median, and mode; let alone the complicated multimodal or multivariable mess that's likely to be the case in this game.

plus the plentiful evidence showing that things aren't fine.

Yup, as Ghazzy mentions in his latest video, perception is important.

GGG's "average" has the same range as "nearby".

...honestly...I consider myself a 'below average' player.....
The average player is the one that doesn't go to TFT for a mf culler when he finds a pantheon-molested rare.
Second-class poe gamer
I'm the average player, but let's forget that for a moment.

The problem is that the game went out of control over the years. It reached a point it gave you basically everything, loot was literally gushing out of everything left and right. If you were a 16 hours a day player it was even more insane. The real issue is that these people that were living in PoE were quite spoiled over the years. Every time GGG wanted to fix some issues, they came in crying, and we were back to square 1. Apparently GGG finally got the "stones" to fix it. In such a case, it's inevitable that someone will cry about it. Imagine eating at a five star restaurant each day, and suddenly they tell you to visit 3-4 star restaurant a few day a week as well; someone clearly won't enjoy that.
Not even gonna mention how trade ruined this game.....

Now back to average player: I'd say someone that plays 4-6 hours per day. At worst they quit the league 1 week in because they either got bored, or hit a wall at red maps. At best they manage to get to t16 maps, and maybe kill 1 boss.
As I've said at the beginning, I'm that guy, and I have seen no drastic difference in the experience compared to last leagues. Yes, sometimes the loot feels underwhelming, but 1 map later it compensates elsewhere.

So yeah, the people that got spoiled over the years will have to readjust.
