Surely you cannot be serious about equating effectiveness & and efficiency as a negative quality?

I mean sure, you do you, if you enjoy washing your clothes by hand in a river to show everyone you are a hard worker, but it wont have the effect you think it will have.

The players will always make their own choices, sometimes it's the "best" option, sometimes it's the most "fun" option, and sometimes the option is selected because they dont know any better.

Its not because of greed and laziness... that's incredibly reductive.

Workaholism is a thing. Its existance proves my point, otherwise it would be gold standard, not dissorder. Also well, we play fkn video game instead of being productive so....

You clearly dont know why people even fall into workaholism if you bring that up here.
I'd like to skip the leveling part once the first character in a league has done it.
I'm a casual and it takes me a week to do. My build this league is not very good and i would start over, but since i don't like to do the campaing again i don't and just stop playing for this league.
I always wondered what would happen if you just skip kitava and go mapping. Sure i loose 2 passive points as quest reward but i get 30 all res including chaos. That would be 2 good passive nodes. I would also have much more room on gear for damage mods. But i dont know if GGG hasnt thought out this and put some restrictions on what you can do without clearing the campaign.

Why not?

I make less and less alts per league because I can't stand going through acts just to stop playing a build haha

But, perhaps there's a good design decision I'm not seeing. Let's discuss my fellow gamers!

Oh yes please. I want to try so many builds, but those 5-6 extra hours of leveling really make me stay on current build until I become so tired of the game that I quit

If I had the posibility to just level fast (1 hour max) a character in softcore I swear I would play at least 5 builds per league. Otherwise I barely lvl a second character...
I'd much prefer the opposite.

Get rid of RNG mishmash Atlas maps completely, it's got all the character and charm of a debug mode.

Concentrate on new campaign content instead.

My favourite part of this game is act 3.

Endless ledge or anything would be a top choice for most players.
Just give the new toons a forced skill point after they kill a random unique boss guarding the exit at lvl 4 (crab daddy), 10 (allflame) etc.
At 20 have us fight all 3 bandits in a split path, and the door is locked.
Either kill all or help one.
Then the endless ledge keeps going from 20 to 100.
Wouldn't mind it, but don't need it desperately, either. I like going through the story. Brushes up on my flask awareness and moving fast.
Campaign sucks.

Doing it once per league is fine.

Beyond that it is a gross time sink. Which is fine for kids or people w/o anything to do.
